dark navy crib- girl's room-help!

I have a very nice Pottery Barn crib that I have used with my two boys. We are now on baby #3. The problem is it is navy blue. We aren't finding out the sex, but I am just trying to get everything lined up in case I happen to have a girl. I am thinking hot pink, navy, and white but have no clue what I could paint the walls. I can't do white walls- I would go crazy. Or do you think that lavender and navy would look good? Need advice!!

I don't want to have to buy a new crib.

Here are some color schemes for weddings that could give you a jumping off point. Near the bottom are two Navy & pink combos, one with hot pink and one with light pink. I think the light pink one is very sweet and would be very pretty with the crib. You could easily replace the pink with a lavender as well.

The color that I'm thinking about is similar to the post above me, maybe a tad lighter. If you were up to doing a two tone, I wouldn't use pink, but two shades of green. I also like the idea of an accent wall, depending on the room. For the accent wall, I like the BM Georgian Green that was posted. From what I can see on my monitor, looks like a great accent color. I actually had the Depot color match the LA color in their Behr paint - since my husband prefers their paint... Sometimes you have to get creative and white out or cover up the name on back of the color sample since they have agreements with those other paint co's.... but if they don't know it, they'll do it - a HD employee gave me that tip!! Another tip, I usually paint a piece of white poster board. I do little squares, a 2x2 inch piece so that I can take it to the Depot for them to color match. Once they do that, you just take the lid back, they will match using the numbers. I then keep a database on my computer with the paint mix formula.

If you’re keeping that rug, I don’t love navy for the walls. I don’t like it with the sage/orange colors. Also don’t like the black chairs against the navy wall. I do love your windows, however, so pretty! I would add add some additional lighting if possible. If you can’t get some hardwired sconces, then plug-in sconces with a clean covered cord still look fine. Or lamps on a sideboard or small table. The room is going to look very dark if you paint the walls dark and only have 4 bulbs overhead in a single chandelier. Even if you don’t paint the room dark, having some more levels of lighting will be nice and make the room feel cozier. I don’t know what the other walls in the room look like in terms of where to place a fixture, but your photos look like they could use more lighting to me.

A child now in a crib will be needing a calming vibe -- it is in your best interest for the child's bedroom to have a calming vibe.. Is that floral fabric bedding and/or window treatment? That's likely more appealing to an adult than a small child -- has a "busy", crowded "where's Waldo" vibe to it. Seriously consider neutral colors for the wall and a not very busy pattern (with limited colors) for any rug. A child that is crawling or walking around barefoot would likely want a soft feel more than a complex pattern. Bedding and curtains can be relatively easily replaced as a child ages but you don't want to be redoing the walls or flooring or rug each year as the child's interests and tastes change. For bedding/window treatments and rug, you might choose a half dozen patterns you would accept and then see which one the child, without nudging, gravitates toward -- if, of course, the child is old enough to reach for one or the other. Oh, I think there are plenty of combinations you could do-- navy would work with pretty much any color. I think a room of navy and pink polka dots would be fun.. if you wanted it to be more feminine, you could do polka dots and bows ala Betsy Johnson.

Lavender would be nice too-- and a more calm combo.

Another possibility is a navy toile for bedding/curtains ... I think you could paint the walls about any color with that-- a lavender, a very pale yellow, green.

I like the pink and navy combo-- but I don't know what you would paint the walls in advance since you dont know if you will have a boy or a girl.

Here is a sweet blue toile-- it's pretty and it would look lovely with a pale yellow wall (which you could take in another direction if you have another boy)

Navy, yellow and white would work well for a little girl as well as a little boy. Soft yellow walls wouldn't be boring.

I saw a pinkish and navy baby room that was gorgeous. They used a feminine print in a faded red/pink (like Nantucket red) with navy and ivory. It was gorgeous.

Do you have to get the room finished before the baby comes? A friend of mine is expecting and they plan to finish the room after the baby comes, keeping him/her in a cosleeper in their room for the first weeks.

I like les or monablairs suggestions. Of course I'm biased and don't really like pink.

My little girl has a ton of pink stuff (clothes etc.) that we've been given and she does have an outfit that is a lighter pink and navy. It looks good together and out of all the pink onsies we have I like it the best due to the navy in it.

PBK used to carry "Abby" bedding in nursery and kids. I bought my daughter the big girl set for when she moves out of her crib. There's a bit more navy in it then in these pics. It's gone at PBK but I'm sure you could find something similar. It's a nice color combo with navy for sure. While girly it is not, you know, frilly. I know Serena & Lily (though way out of my price range) had a beautiful pink and navy scheme a few years ago for a nursery. You might want to check them out for inspiration too. Congrats on the baby!

Love the idea of a blue toile room, paired with white. The walls could be done in a pale French blue and it would work with a boy or girl.

I, too, would want to paint the crib though -- maybe a light blue : )
