Now that it's morning I thought I would probably change my mind, but I still like the idea of an unexpected color coming around the corner. And with hickory floors, the blue and white will really lighten up the space!

I dont have any issue with the blue.. but I keep hearing that you are going for an old world look and this just doesnt strike me as old world. It also doesnt have the warmth or richness that I'd expect for a library (or nook). I think the similar style in beige like Loribee's would be a much better option for the look you are going for.

I'm with funkyart. I really have no problem with the blue but not sure that that peticular rug goes with what you are trying to achieve

I like the color and style of the rug. It does read more cottage country or maybe traditional to me than Old World if that's the overall look you're going for, but it's very nice.

In the second photo, I see what looks like the back of a sofa? It's a floral fabric on the left side of the picture. My main concern would be how the rug may clash with that sofa (or whatever it is). My second concern would be how delicate the rug is compared to the checkerboard tiles in the adjacent foyer. You will be looking at the foyer floor and that rug almost side by side, so that would also concern me. Maybe someone could photoshop the rug so you/we could see how it would look?

The room is mostly Old World, but it's not the sole style. The house is a mixture of old world, victorian, farm, vintage. Basically a Mutt. lol

Sue, that's a lap quilt hanging over a dark green chair for my kitty to sit on. :) I plan on changing it out once my things are unpacked.

You can't really see both the entryway and nook floors unless you're standing in the room down at that end. Even sitting on the sofa I can't see the nook floor.

I was thinking of a rose colored rug also, which would blend in with the burgandy sofa.

Since the room has a beige wall, I don't want to do more beige.

See what you think of this one from the site Loribee linked. While you might not want to be too monochromatic, I don't think the background off white in the blue rug you posted is harmonious with your tones.

If you really love the rug you linked, could you use it in another room? Depending on your colors, it could be great in a bedroom, bath or kitchen.

I think the rug looks bedroom, not library. It's pretty, but not really in feeling with what your architectural statement. I wouldn't use a rug lighter than your furniture.

Abundant, that's a pretty rug but it still has too much beige in it. Even though there's a window in the nook, it faces north off the front porch so there is no sunlight in that area. That's why I wanted to get a brighter color, some sort of pastel to make the nook "pop."

Idee, I've never heard not to use a rug lighter than our furniture. I've seen many a room with light carpets/rugs with dark furniture that are gorgeous.

I'm still looking though! I've looked at yellows and gold, and nothing stands out yet.

I do want a Kas rug. Have you ever walked on one? The feet just sink in them.

I think you could use the blue, but not that rug. I agree with others that it does not work with the look you are going for. You could pull some blue accents into the great room.

Is a chair going in the reading nook? I can see a nice comfy reading chair.

Have you tried doing an inspiration board? That would help before buying all these pieces and then things/colors not working. Use fabric samples, paint swatches, etc. There is even a neat on-line one (someone help with with the site - is is polyvore - something like that?) where you can do a mock up board of furniture, accessories, paint, etc. BEFORE buying. I think you need to have a plan.

Tina, I really don't need a plan, just a rug. :) The rest of the room is all figured out, I just want a rug that's cheery and bright in the nook.

Mona, I saw those rugs earlier, but they're dull in color to me. I'll probably end up getting something with burgandy and black in it to match the hearth rug and the bigger area rug in the same room we'll be getting.

I have a total of 4 rugs to buy and I can't even decide on a little one. lol But we'll buy the two large ones at the store so I can see them first.

I'm only choosing something different for that area because it's off the main room so it can't be seen unless you're right in front of it. Even when I step out of the entryway, I can't see the room. That's why I thought I could play around with a different color and add matching accent pieces with the books.

I have a solid area (10x12) area rug on top of an oak hardwood floor in my living room (burgundy), which leads into a big square archway to my dining room, which has a 25 year old, very heavy, chinese rug, (10x13) which is blue & orange on very light beige. Neither rug has anything to do with the other. And they peacefully coexist just fine. But then I guess I'm eclectic beyond eclectic in my home "decor" (gawd I hate that word).

Ugh, it's ugly in there with the rug. lol. Back to square one!

Kf, I think i'm getting to be more and more eclectic too. It's gotten to be if I like it I'll get it and rules be darned. :)

(I buy rugs to match my floors and dirt, LOL!)

Mostly we inherited a bunch of antique persian rugs. I took a bunch of gold colored one because no one else wanted them. I love them on my wood floors and didn't even realize I would. They taught me something big. Now I match the flooring, with only a nod to the rest of my decor. Works for me. Those loud gold rugs disappeared into my flooring and looked wonderful.

Think flooring, Oakley, not books or walls. We're talking only about the floor here, sister. :+) Think of your tile color only and it will come together, I swear!
