Does crown molding on cabs look wierd if not touching ceiling?
Comments (12)I wanted the crown molding to go to the ceiling because I was sick of all the dust up there. My ceiling is pitched on one side and I have a half wall on the other so they couldn't go all the way up or it would look funny. I agree with lascatx, though. My friend had her cabinets put in by Home Depot and they are very close to the ceiling, though not touching. It looks odd, and I can't imagine how the dust accumulates in an opeing that is practically too small to clean! Anyway, here is a picture of my kitchen (some of you are probably sick of seeing it already!). The molding does not go up to the ceiling and I think it looks good....See MoreHave 8ft ceilings...what size upper cabs did you use?
Comments (26)In my last home, I had 8' ceilings, and I had 42" cabinets with a narrow molding. Loved it! You can NEVER have too much storage IMHO. You THINK you'll never use those top shelves, but believe me, you WILL. I am not a fan of a lot of molding - just MHO and my own personal taste, but I think a big molding looks great in a den or library bookcase, but is too fussy for the kitchen (sorry!). In my current home, I have 9" ceilings, so I have 42" cabs, plus another short set of cabs stacked above them. I don't think it looks closed in at all; in fact I think it makes the kitchen look larger. Also, I toured a mansion (tour was for charity) that had a butler's pantry. The butler's pantry was quite small, but had custom cabinets to the ceiling - gorgeous, and the height really made it look elegant. Also, in my area at least, the realtors say that 42" cabinets are considered more desirable and "high-end". You may choose to believe that or not, but you will see real estate ads here that make a point of saying "kitchen comes with 42" cabinets". Sudiepav - I too am short (5'3"), and for me, I need a stepstool for anything above the second shelf (or even for the back of the second shelf), regardless of the height of the cabinet. So whether the cabs are 36" or 39" or 42", it doesn't matter, I'll need that stepstool. So not sure if a person's shortness would figure into this decision...I guess it depends on just how short they are!...See More8 foot ceilings - need to see pictures!
Comments (16)Brutuses...our cabinets are Omega Dynasty/Embassy with a sprinkling of Omega Custom where needed. They are cherry wood, mandarin orange stain, coffee glaze. Door style is Anson. So far, we are very happy with them...they look as wonderful up close as they do at a distance and the glides, hinges, etc. are so smooth. I would unhesitatingly recommend Omega cabinets. They come in semi-custom (Omega Dynasty/Embassy) and custom (Omega Custom). What's great about these is that since most doors and all the finishes in the semi-custom line are also available in the Custom line, you can get mostly semi-custom and only get Custom where needed. BTW...full extension and soft-close are standard on all drawers & roll out trays (pullout shelves). Comments (13)dang this new ipad. I can't figure out how to cut and paste pics from my photo bucket account here. I've had it for five mins so forgive me. I'll explain what I have and try to get a pic tomorrow (it's in photobucket igloochic lake house kitchen if you know how to search photo bucket). Anyhoo I had the same problem and I love our solution which was a fridge debth cabinet which is open in the front (just a 9" opening and then molding). In the back of the deep cab I keep trays and serving platters we only use for parties. But in front of those I have my yellow ware bowls and they are a lovely accent for the kitchen plus easy to reach since we have a kick stool in the kitchen. It's a very functional space....See Moreiceqween13
