How important is it to center a sink under a window?
Comments (14)Another vote for the second layout--I think it'll just look a bit off without the sink centered under the window. I went thru the same dilemma in my tiny kitchen remodel...maybe my solution will work for you.....have you considered an 18" wide dishwasher? Those extra couple of inches saved on the dishwasher side of your sink might give you room for a larger sink base still centered under the window. I downsized from a 24" to 18" Miele dishwasher, and really prefer the smaller dishwasher for my usage, plus it made the whole layout just work better. One other idea which might work if it fits with the look you are going for----there are quite a few options (Franke and Porcher for sure, and probably others) for 24" wide apron front farm house sinks with squared off bottoms (as opposed to the curves of the Shaw sink) that can be installed right on top of shorter 24" base cabinets, so you can maximize the size of the sink in the sink base. Here is an example of the kind of sink I'm talking about(Porcher): Hope this helps!...See MoreKitchen sink faucet height under window?
Comments (11)lukkiirish - Thanks - As usual I'm having issues with the form vs. function part of the overall design again. I do like the graceful arc and pull down sprayer and I have collected quite a few photos to give me an aesthetic to ponder. Will go check out the Aberdeen - we've always had great wear and longevity from Moen faucets over the years, so we know they're extremely reliable. lexluthor - Nice corner sink - had one time played with the idea of having one. The Vinnata is one I have been considering. justmeinsd - Now that's a serious faucet! It has a very professional chef quality to it. DH might have a higher culinary expectation from me with that one! ;-). zelmar - Yours has a nice, balanced look to it in front of the window and may be approx. where mine might be, altbeit on a smaller window. Thanks! I have about 2 weeks to make a decision, so I'm welcoming all ideas and pics. GW is such a great forum, nice to have so much information in one spot....See MoreDo you have a kitchen faucet not mounted in center back of sink?
Comments (7)Here is my dilemma. Maybe someone can help. We are installing a stainless sink in the corner. Because it has to fit, they recommended a 25" x 22" sink and no larger. You cannot find undermount sinks in that particular size. Everything either jumps to a 30" or goes down to a much smaller size unless of course someone can help. I preferred NOT to go off center with the faucet but I might have to if I want the sink at those preferred dimensions because you can get a D shaped sink closer to those dimensions. Any more thoughts about off center faucets? I am very symmetrical and the focal point will be the corner and an off center faucet bothers me. Thanks!...See MoreDon't want to center sink under windows--ok or not?
Comments (19)So sorry to hear that your husband died. How heartbreaking! Is your need for symmetry the reason why you're placing the fridge dead center on the left wall? NKBA guidelines recommend against placing a tall appliance in the middle of a counter run. IMO, your fridge placement splits the kitchen awkwardly, especially since that left wall could be a fabulous stretch of counter for baking, prep, etc. Plus centering the fridge makes it a focal point, which is generally not desired for fridges. Would you consider moving the fridge to the bottom wall like this?Moving the fridge to the outer edge of the kitchen means that others can access it without crossing cleaning or cook zone. I moved the prep sink to the corner to make room for trash at the end of the peninsula, handy to prep and clean-up zones. You could also do a corner sink ala Circuspeanut's or Buehl's set-up. See their corner sinks in this thread Please show me your (corner) prep sink I'm suggesting to-the-counter cabs at both ends of the run on the left wall. That will provide symmetry as well as additional storage. You could make one or both into appliance garages. This is just one lay-out possibility if you're willing to move the fridge. This is what I'm suggesting for the towel cab between DW and fridge....See Morevickevette
