I have been going coo coo lately trying to find a sink. I have one I bought two mos ago , ADKY, that already has rust in the brushed stainless grooves on the upper left lip that sits ON the countertop. Now that is just not gonna work. I have learned more than I wanted to have to learn at age 72. Check out the reviews on these sinks and you will be flabbergasted. Much of the talk here has been about gauge and sound quieting when the main talk should be about how easy these stainless steel sinks rust and scratch so easily. It is just not acceptable. I removed an old SS sink that NEVER had rust issues whatsoever to place the new one that is rusting . I will just not tolerate it being there. That is when my search began and I sadly discovered how the sink makers are ripping us all off. Why can't they make them like the older ones anymore???? 304 is standard and it rust extremely easy. The majority of sinks out there are 304 mixture. The next marine-grade would be 316. Not easy to find in the style you may be looking for but it corrodes less easily and I assume is pretty rust-resistant. At the moment I have a 33” x 22 “ Workstation Topmount / Drop-in Nano Black Stainless Steel Sink, 16-Gauge Bowl w/ Integrated Ledge in my sites. They say it is made with premium 16-gauge Nano black stainless steel and the deck is made with an extra-thick 9-gauge 4 mm Nano black stainless steel. Moreover, Nano black stainless steel repels water and more dirt resistance than normal stainless steel – easier cleaning and maintenance! It has a 9-gauge deck. It has nano-PVD finish, the stainless steel is overlayed with a colored mat finish that is resistant to wear and abrasion. The finish has a matte texture that is fingerprint and stain resistant. They claim it will never rust or tarnish. I may be willing to find out lol. I do not agree with Consumer Reports. Keep in mind that CR is always biased toward the common-denominator; just look at how they rate appliance brands. My friend has a 18-gauge Kohler sink, and it sounds and feels tinny to me. I have a 14-gauge sink (custom), and it is quiet, but also, there is a "feel" to it when the water strikes it, or when I put a heavy pot down, that I prefer. I would not get an 18-gauge or thinner stainless sink. But the most crucial thing is the irony that you can find 16-gauge beautiful sinks for less money than Kohler or Franke sells their thinner-gauge sinks. Check out galaxytoolsupply website, or the Kraus sinks on expressdecor and overstock. There are quite a number of Gardenwebbers who have bought Kraus or galaxytoolsupply 16-gauge sinks, and are thrilled with them. So, the only reason I can think of to choose a thinner-gauge stainless sink over a 16-gauge sink is if you think 16-gauge sinks are more expensive. But they're not. Or, never mind the whole issue, and get a Blanco Silgranit sink instead. That's what I am getting for my "next" kitchen - whenever that will be :)

I found this thread very helpful in selecting a stainless steel sink. I ordered a 16 gauge double sink from New Look Plumbing in Sacramento, California. When it arrived, it had a very bad smell on the coating used to cover the rubber pads on the bottom of the sinks. I was also suspicious of its thickness. The vendor's phone response was rude. I bought a thickness gauge and measured the edge of the sink in several places and found it to be 1.3 mm, which is between 17 and 18 gauge. See the chart below. Is your ticor sink the 405? Can't find it anywhere. Galaxy tools have them backordered till early Dec "IF" they arrive, could be held up in customs so he says. I am scared to take the chance and my fabricator really wants to get going. My other choices are the Kohler 3099 D sink which is quite pricey (anyone have one installed?) or an off brand from Builders spec that is basically the same size as the Ticor except overall width is a little smaller. It is from Italy and the salesgal online says people rave about the sink. Decisions, decisions............. If anyone knows of an available Ricor 405 please let me know, doesn't look like overstock has the right one.
