looking for pattern for quilt block

I have all the fabric but cant find a pattern for a block I saw in a BHG quilt magazine. It is so cute and I cant wait to get started.

Each block is made from a white background cut in about a 12 inch square with about 10 pink wedge shapes or skinny watermelon shapes, radiating from center of the block, appliquÃ©d on the white background. In the center of the block on top of the watermelon shapes is one teal green circle. If I can make it clearer the shapes are arranged to look similar to a flower.

I have seen a circle cut into wedges on a block before but I cant find this block either. The shapes all meet neatly in the center of the block and each wedge is made of a different pink fabric.

I have purchased several different white fabrics with tiny print (cat paws, ants, swirls, checks etc.) and lots of hot pink fabrics for the wedges. I want to make this for my granddaughter, she loves pink. Can anyone direct me to where I might find instructions for this block? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

What you described sounds like Dresden Plate. It is an old traditional pattern and you can find it in just about any quilt book I would think.

I know which pattern you mean! I have a friend who made that quilt last year. Thought I had the magazine - American Patchwork and Quilting - but it must have been one of their specialty magazines. I'll try to find out for you. I can just picture it! Maybe, you could draw out your own "wedge" on scrap paper, and make your own templates for this, if all else fails?

Welcome Becki!! I am brand new to quilting as well. I started about 5 months ago (weekends only) and I must tell you just posting and joining this quilting family is a good start!! I really love "Quilting 101" A beginner's Guide to Quilting. It is very easy to understand, gives good basic information and has projects (such as potholders, table runners, quilts etc.) that are very doable and can be used for any size quilt you desire. I bought it on Amazon and it sits on my small cutting table as a reference guide for me when I get stuck with something like binding and corners! Yes those are the two things that I still have problems with... I also love magazines! Fons & Porters "Easy Quilts" is wonderful!! So if you can pick up one of those and see what you think. Anyway, welcome and I hope you drop in often and tell us how you're doing and by all means if you have questions please don't hesitate to ask. I check this forum everyday and learn so much just reading the topics. Oh, when you have time look at "quilters blogs" as well. I once made a bear block. I think it is in my orphan pile. May get around to it sometime. If you are interested I could see if I can find the pattern. I believe I was going to use blocks of different sizes 12, 6, 3', and put them together in a random manner. My plan was trees. bears. cabins, stars,flying geese, etc. I think it was VERY slow. Hi Maryliz... Actually, I've done embroidery quite a bit - did my first cross stitch pieces back in the early 90's.....wanted something special for the house for a special wall...and did 2 - love them still...and I've done bit and piecres of stuff since then..... Actually I'm now planning on doing some embroidered pillows - found the patterns in a needlepoint magazine..they have a country look....I love them.... If I could get at least 1 done I'll post a picture.... Also started to get inspired by Redwork...but not necessarily red....I like the ideas of different colors...with matching fabrics, etc....not sure what I'll do but I'm making some plans..being buying muslin, country checks, etc......watchout.... Actually, the Dresden Plate does looks like what I described, but the shapes of the wedges I am looking for look like side view of a cut watermelon and there are spaces between the shapes. I wish I could draw a picture.

The shapes are like an elongated half circle, instead of the Dresden plate shape. I am sorry I am not very good at description.

Scaphappy, Yes!! I saw it in an advertisement for the American Quilt magazine but I never subscribed and I haven't been able to locate the magazine with this pattern. I would be forever grateful if you can find this pattern. I tried my hand at making up my own pattern, but there is something not quite right about what I am doing. Maybe the block is not square or ???

I don't see this friend often - she lives out-of-town, and works crazy hours, but she's in several quilt groups I'm in - one of them, in fact tonight. I'll try to get more info for you. If we knew the name of the pattern, and which issue it is in, that'd help.
