I love this color combo. I first thought a paler aqua or beige, but just not sure after I did a mini paint job with Windows Paint. I didn't really care for either. I was hoping someone else would speak up, but I see no one has yet. I'm not one to ask paint color names or brands. I have pretty much all the Laura Ashley paint chips and some Ralph Lauren among odds and ends of others, but I'm no way into paint like some of the gals are here. I hope someone pops in and helps out.
One question, will be you be adding drapes?

Justgotabeme: Thanks....at first I fought the carpet color; (it was here when we moved in 8 yrs ago!), but I've decided to embrace it. PO had pink & blue floral pleated draw drapes and matching ruffly bedspread. Wow! I quickly took all that out of there, and have gone through a couple different color combos, but settled on this a couple yrs ago....however, I've kind of dropped the ball with window treatments and wall color! I'm thinking that with a more intense wall color, I could do a nice wispy white curtain with bamboo shades? I would consider painting the trim white also if that would help things. Some of the greige colors I tried just seemed too cool? Oh I don't know...hope someone comes up with something to cozy up this room:)

Since the carpet was there when you moved in, any chance there are hardwood floors under the rug? You could pull up a corner to check.

I think changing out the bedskirt might help. I don't know if such a thing exists, but a paisley with your colors might help tie things together. I am linking to a Pottery Barn one in toile that would pull the brown in with white if you paint the woodwork. If you keep the white skirt, you could put a patterned throw at the foot of the bed to break up the large patch of brown. Of course, those changes would not work with the modern rug at the foot of the bed.

Painting the trim white would help I think---and tie into the white bedskirt if you keep it or the toile. Disclaimer: I am not a fan of natural wood trim unless in a Craftsman or Victorian house, so take that for what it's worth!

As for wall color, I hope some of the geniuses here can help. I would do a pale color, but I like the idea of a green that would go with both the brown and the pillows. In fact the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of your duvet, the brown toile bedskirt, white woodwork, and greenish/bluish walls.

Sorry to ramble-I am obviously way too indecisive! At least this gets you back to the top! :)

I like the skirt you linked very much! Hadn't thought about that needing to be changed since the one there has 4 teal and navy lines of stitching right along the bottom that you can't see in the pic. And the rug? No special attachment there. I was just thrilled to find it a couple yrs ago with the exact teal as the carpet, and saw it as a way to cover some of it up. So it could go if it was too contemporary.
Looking back at the pics, on my monitor anyway, the walls already look like a greige, but IRL it is just kind of a pale off white with a yellow cast--at the time it seemed safe with the teal.--which BTW isn't looking as green blue in the pics as it is.
Painting the trim around the windows would not be a problem and probably needs to be done anyway as we just updated the livig areas of our home with white (SW Alabaster) trim. However, painting the base right next to carpet gives me a headache just thinking about it:/
Pulling the carpet isn't an option right now....and the house isn't old enough to have anything exciting under there...built in abt '94. The carpet is in perfect condition, so I thought I could just ride out the teal phase we're in for now.

Today,on Oprah, Nate Berkus showed his Manhattan loft. He had a brown duvet and a white throw across the bottom (I'll link it, but you'll have to be quick or pause it b/c it is a very brief glimpse). It looked great. No blue, though. I think the blue softens and makes your room cozy. Maybe a double layer of the blue-green from the rug and a white one-that would pick up all your colors. Still waiting for the color folks on your walls, though :)

I don't normally make color suggestions as I don't consider myself skilled enough to do so (lol), but I could really see a fresh green on those walls, like you suggested. Just look at the green of the plants on the dresser--it goes so well with the other colors. I think a throw on the bed in white and green, along with a couple of pillows and some accent pieces could tie the room together. Definitely think about painting the trim that white, too. I love the color of your carpet!

I don't know how I missed the green in your pillows, but now that I know it's there how about this for your walls?

I love the carpet color too. I think too many are afraid of color on floors unless in an area rug. And many, like you, are afraid of too much color. Ya gotta live a little. It's only paint. If you hate it, paint over it. Start by just painting the window wall and live with it a few days. I do agree that it would be nice to have green in the rug, but I don't think it's necessary.

In my experience, rich, clear ivory walls without too much yellow, and bright white trim, make a wonderful background for blue and brown. You rarely see a third clear color used in a successful blue-and-brown scheme. The trick with that combination is to warm it up a bit. The turquoise will likely make a shade of gray look dirty and a bit drab. It would be hard to go wrong with BMoore's Linen White, or even Atrium White, if you want it very pale, for the walls, and Decorators White for the trim. Just the tiniest bit of contrast there, to make it look crisp.
Alternatively, if you wanted to keep a cool blue environment, you might try BMooire's Seafoam, which is a very pale aqua, with Super White trim...like one of those perfect Brooks Brothers striped summer shirts in pale aqua and white. If you like that idea, you might also follow justgotabeme's suggestion and add floor length white linen or raw silk curtains (something with a little weight and texture) hung out to the sides of the window from a slender black iron rod mounted at the ceiling. Blue and brown always need a few touches of black, particularly with the white!

Then if there is room, I'd consider moving the two pictures to either side of the dresser, and adding a full-length mirror to the wall to the right of the bed as you look at the photo.

And if you REALLY want to jazz up the joint, paint the walls Atrium White, and add 8-inch wide Seafoam stripes, a foot apart, all the way around the room!

brownysmom: Thanks so much for your input!! I was hoping to hear from you! You are right about the gray...I've sampled some on white paper and instead of looking rich, it just looked kind of blah...
What's in there now is too yellow (I know, the pic does not show that!) even though it is pale. so yes, trying to get away from anything yellow!!
and the funny thing is, I hate anything that is remotely pinkish in undertone, but the SW Kilim Beige strip which comes across that way in my living areas, looks ok in there. Hmmmmm
So,I'll take a look at BM Linen White. Any undertones?

I have a light aqua/tan/chocolate living room. My walls are painted SW Croissant. It's a soft tan. I have some BM linen white in my home and I think it as yellow undertones.

Yes, Linen White has yellow undertones, most definitely. Most of the warm whites have either a pink or a yellow hint...and when they have a little of both, you get something that reads more like tan...but if you don't mind white, Atrium White is quite light reflective, and less yellow.

It sounds like Linen White is out then. As for Atrium White, I was thinking the walls needed a deeper color to cozy it up. It's quite bright in the day, and the color there now, doesn't do anything for it. I know window treatments will be a huge help. Maybe I should just start there.

I'm leaning towards a peachy tan to pick up on the warm tones of the wood. Maybe add some contrast accents that are more orange.

Thanks prairiedawn! I thought this thread was dead--surprised to see it on Pg 1. You are the second person to suggest the orange tones...an interior decorator way back last summer said "oh, you just need some tangerine in here!" Well, I wasn't sure and so didn't do it, but it has come back to me several times. thanks for the bump to my memory:) I may have to just try some throw pillows.

I love the aqua/turquoise and brown combo. I have it in my office with a touch of peach.

I agree in the OP picture that the white bedskirt needs to be changed and could be replaced by a print in the blue, brown and peach or tangerine accent color. I love the rug you put in there, very good match. I look forward to more pix of this room.

Someone mentioned stripes, and that was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw your room. Love the idea of orange accents, too. Also, would you be willing to paint the hutch that's in the room? Here's a pic (although not a bedroom) with 10" stripes and white trim. It's a painting technique not too difficult to do.
