O'Keefe & Merritt Stove
Comments (3)O'Keefe & Merritt was a west coast brand that was once owned by Tappan. In the 70s, I worked for both companies in distribution. Depending on the level of restoration, it could get expensive. Don't know where you live in Texas, but there are a couple of places in the DFW Metroplex that work with older appliances. Comments (5)For many years, I managed regional distribution centers for Tappan Appliance Co. Tappan aquired O'Keefe and Merritt, a California based company sometime around 1960. The gas range pictured, and similar models, were actually produced into the early 70s. I suspect the OPs range dates into the mid-60s. There should be a plate on the range, perhaps on the back, that gives the model number. It might be something similar to 1046-00....See MoreO'Keefe & Merritt Stove
Comments (2)Yes, we have one and have taken it apart. $2500 just to clean it is insane---run from that place! We had ours rehabbed for $500 (just the guts, not re-enameled, which would have been another $1000---but still far less than $2500!!) You can buy a fully restored, re-enameled and rechromed O&M for not much more than that here. There's a back panel that's screwed in. Very easy to remove, and then you can have at it. They're very mechanical stoves---most things are screwed into place, and literally everything can come out and be washed. Simple Green worked well on ours. Good luck!...See MoreO'Keefe and Merritt Stove
Comments (2)Hi Jack, congrats on your showpiece! I have a vintage 1949 model O'Keefe & Merritt and it's the pride of my kitchen. I'm no expert, but you likely need the burner valves replaced or rebuilt. There are a few places that offer this service. I've had a great experience with both of the companies below: Antique Gas Stoves Old Appliance Club You send in your valves with some photos of them in place in your stove, they rebuild them and send back. Might not be a bad idea to have the safety valves redone at the same time? Enjoy!...See Moreauclark
