This looks quick, easy and pretty. How can I resist? I have some jewel tones (my favorite!) and some black for the sashing that I had set aside for last months block. Put me down for 2.

Well, calliope, I think you've made another fine selection. Hopefully the corners I just cut off my snowball blocks from another project will work with this, so I think I can be counted on for two blocks again this month.

ok I should have my sewing room done soon and ready to start sewing in a week, so I would like to join this one.
just so I have it straight.... the large squaire is to be jewle tone, the star(elongated diamonds) are to be white or wow, and the background is to be a dark color matching the jewle tone right?
I'm gonna go sort thorugh my fabrics and see what I have

Welcome aboard, Micyrey. Yes, you have it right. Only the 'background' or sash doesn't have to match the square or anything, really. Just be dark to contrast against the jeweltones and make them pop.

I want to give a much leeway as possible to the participants, so they don't have to be out looking for material any more than necessary. But, still maintain the integrity of a jeweltone quilt. I spent an hour up in my sewing room this morning, and have both blocks halfway done. It was fun. The list so far:

I am rather confused over this one, if we are all doing different colors how is it all going to look when joined up as from the picture it seems that it is geometric. Before i commit myself to doing it need to know.

Just bringing this back up to the first page as a reminder we still have twenty six days to get this in if you want to join. I finished both blocks in an hour and a half, working leisurely. Most can find suitable material in their stash bins.

Know we are all busy with summer activities and obligations, so understand if anyone can't. There are also a lot of different quilting activities going on at the same time and many of us are working in more than one direction. If there is anything I can do, or suggestions to increase interest in a monthly lotto, feel to suggest them.

I had to buy some fabric for this - I will do at least 1 block. Maybe more. My goal was to participate in each monthly Lotto. It has been great experience for me as a new quilter, as well as sewing with a new machine. I have to force myself not to sew with my old friend. So include my name, I will update the number if I get more blocks completed.

Okay, calliope, my blocks will be on their way next Monday. I will be sewing them this weekend, now that my blue and white quilt top is finished (hooooo--raaaaayyyy!). I've chosen a beautiful topaz (golden yellow) and a ruby (strong, intense red) for my "jewels". Can't wait to see what you get!

Thanks Mago and Odessa. I am knee deep in harvesting and canning vegetables lately, and am taking a break now to make up some soup to go with the bread I just took out of the oven and am back out to get the fall garden in.

I just want to add that this design/block is featured,in "The Quilting Bible" Expanded Edition ~ 6 pages dedicated to this Star Sashing pages 74-79. The quilts featured are very lovely & the jewel tones with white stars is going to make a beautiful quilt. After seeing the various, similar pics in this book, I am very excited. I had these pages marked for another planned project without realizing this is the same as this month's Lotto. I haven't started my blocks yet - so there is still time if anyone else wants to race me to the finish :)

calliope ~ I finished 2 blocks last night to make it an even 12 blocks (if no one else joins). They are sewn in the same fabrics (aqua) if that is okay ~ if not ~ count 1 as a bonus block. I'll get them mailed out early next week.

Wow, this block turned out to be even easier than I expected! I didn't start until after dinner tonight, then selected fabric from scraps and stash, ironed, cut and put all 3 blocks together. They sew up so fast! One ruby, one sapphire, one amethyst; I signed up for just 2 but I couldn't eliminate one of those colors so I did 3.

Initially I just looked at the block itself and didn't realize until tonight that the sashing forms a star. Duh... I should have seen it but I didn't until I started. Then the light bulb came on! This is an awesome pattern and I'm surprised more people didn't sign up. I know it's a busy time of the year, but they are missing out on something really cute.

It's just the 15th... there's plenty of time for anyone else who is interested. Maybe we should post a couple picture so everyone can see the blocks.

I messed up if you look at my blocks the long piecs next to the large squaire is the one I thought was to be white, I will try to get 3 more done right but I'm not sure if I can get them done

Calliope, how are they coming? I found this lotto to be SO simple that I'm anxious to see what's up for next month already! I just know this group of blocks will make a stunner when they're put together ...

11 days left in the month! I'm still hoping a couple other people are inspired to give it a try. Even 12 blocks will make a pretty quilt though.

Odessa, I'll gladly send you some veggies if you win this month's lotto. I can't tell you in what condition they'll arrive, however. I was up at daybreak hoeing weeds, and chasing rabbits out of the garden. I don't know how one got in last night past the electric fence, but the new cabbage plants have been attacked. My husband got 'bit' by the fence yesterday, so I know it's working.

Micyrey, your first blocks were beautiful. If I'd have won them, they'd be put right along with the rest in a quilt. I think they'd have been fine, given the leeway of the fabrics, perhaps as a center interest.

I'm really excited by the cache so far. This is for sure going to be on my agenda for a quilt as soon as I finish up my UFOs.

A slight correction: you should have received 3 blocks from me, not 2. (ruby, sapphire, amethyst) Please let me know if they aren't all there! I could have missed putting one in the envelope but I haven't seen it around here.

I know what you mean, I grew up on a small cash-crop farm nearby to where I live now and I'm familiar with the rabbits coming into the garden, early a.m. hoeing, electric fences, and all that fun stuff! Did you receive my 3rd block? It was emerald in color with little flecks of gold, black sashing and WOW stars. I noticed you indicated only 2 received....

You will please excuse me ladies. I shall make the pilgrimage to the bowels of my sewing room, where I stash the blocks for the lotto and do a nose-count. This has been a bizarre month for me in all directions, but I have them all tucked in their shipping envelopes yet, apart from the other. I'll get right back with you. I have been known to be flaky. Yes, I am blonde. LOL.

I really wanted to participate for the August Lotto, but the "Quilter's Elbow" tendonitis and lots of canning kept me out of the studio.

I do have lots of canned tomatoes, and lots of marmalade, but my elbow is still swollen. Doctor visit next week.

Mary, I'm so sorry about your elbow. Been there myself, and surely know what that is like, and how long it takes before they start feeling better. Hope you can get some relief quickly.

Woodenzoo, thank you. I added you to the list, and may do a third block myself. I have company coming this week, still harvesting and canning, and trying to finish up on three UFOs but this one is so easy and I keep wanting to try out fabrics on it, to see how they work. I have a lovely turquoise yardage and we haven't seen turquoise in it yet.
