Shower curtains
Comments (9)We are just finishing a 47 inch wide shower with a 6 inch curb. I'm using a cheap temporary expandable curtain rod now to test what curtain I like (stall or regular size) and making sure the height is right before putting in the permanent rod. The stall curtain is 78 inches high and the regular one is 72 inches. I'm finding that the regular shower curtain looks fine, is not too bulky, and is tall enough. I'm happy to go with it because replacements will be so much easier. I'm using the Hotel fabric shower curtain liner from Bed Bath and Beyond - works great as a shower curtain and liner. Obviously, I'm opting out of a shower door....See MoreWhich direction is a shower curtain liner supposed to face?
Comments (14)I think think it may be for a 3' long shower; most curtains and liners are 6' long. I simply take scissors to the liner and carefully cut them in half, which also means each one lasts twice as long as I later replace the first half with the second. This would be more difficult for a curtain though if like me you don't have a sewing machine. Comments (3)Tabs aren't so great for curtains that must be opened and closed regularly IME - they tend not to slide on the rod very well. If you use a simple buttonhole in the top hem you can slip decorative curtain rings (the kind you'd use for normal curtains, not shower curtains) through both the pretty curtain and the liner and use a decorative shower curtain rod. Use a good interfacing in the top hem to reinforce the buttonholes. That is less visually obtrusive than grommets. You can get double rods for shower curtains, the inner one for the liner is a little lower than the front one so the liner doesn't show, but they tend not to be that attractive. Same goes for the double shower curtain hooks, they're very functional but not very decorative. Croscill makes some gorgeous decorative shower curtain rods that aren't too horribly expensive. IMO fabric shower curtain liners are so much nicer than vinyl, and they don't stink. I've used heavy steel washers for weighting shower curtains before and they worked really well. Sew little pockets, open at the top, every 6" or so in the hem of the shower curtain. Drop the washers in. If you want to you can take a hand stitch in the top of the pocket to hold the washer in place, you can do that, but I've never had a problem with them falling out. When you want to wash or dry-clean the shower curtain, just take the washers out....See MoreHookless Shower Curtain Rave!
Comments (13)Monicakm_gw, thanks for the pictures, that was helpful and kind of you! I can really see the metallic color in your deco tiles when I blow up the next-to-last picture. Very Nice! If I do forego a glass door and get a shower curtain, I will have the contractor put it up. My neck is too unstable to be looking up at anything! I will have no tub to stand on, either. It is good to see how well it hangs. I was afraid that it was a lot stiffer than this. It looked like it would spread back out straight, like an impolite fella doing a man-spread on the subway! Now that my dog is getting more confused and more crippled as he approaches his 16th birthday, I am thinking that even if my contractor contacts me soon to say he is done with the commercial job he has been on for the past year and a half or so, I will still have to delay the job until my dog passes on. I don't think he could take the confusion of construction, especially since our only full bath is his approved indoors pee-place. I keep waterproof quilted mats on the floor for him there. I am not sure he could adjust to having that room out of service. I know that I don't want his elderly self peeing on the new floor and possibly missing his mat as he ages! No way! His half blind (one eye had bad glaucoma earlier this year and is blind now) and doggy dementia-ed self needs peace and routine, not a torn up floor with a drop to the basement. So I guess I will have the soffit trim and the gutters replaced. No bathroom is getting gutted anytime soon!...See Morekraftdee
