If I want to take a small puter along...

what should I buy????

My laptop is to big and heavy. I don't have an ifone, or want one, that is to small and the writing to tiny for my eyes.

I am about to embark on another biking journey, and kinda think of wanting a puter along.

Tell me the good, bad and ugly!

We have an old 17" laptop, too heavy to be very portable. We have a 10" notebook, too small to see the screen well. I have a 15.6" laptop, that is about perfect. My iPad is easy to see, too, even though it's the same size as the netbook, it's much easier to read forums on.A 10" or 7" tablet might be just the thing, lightweight, yoiu can have some books on it, and if you can stay where there's Wi-Fi, you can get online (or get one with 3G and pay a monthly fee, will work wherever your carrier has reception).

Hi Joan

Since I posted, I found something price wise on amazon... better price than 1daysale.com.

I am getting a tablet.

I'll report back, after my trip, on how it works. :)

Thanks for getting back to me.

It looks like they've reached their goal! =) It's good to see large companies like that helping others. Since October is breast cancer awareness month, I put some auctions of bulbs on ebay and am donating 20% to Susan G. Komen for the cure =) and with the bulbs I'm including a free gift, little goody bags full of breast cancer awareness items (pencils, bookmarks, bracelets...) they're really cute! I'll have to take a pic! Tiffany

Should I take the advice of ID or get what I want

Umm, I like the idea of matching the two sofas legs even if the sofas are different. I had not thought of that. The Varick has the option of straight legs to sort of match the Rockford. Since the Chair is a solid color, (it will be sitting in front of a Damask curtain with LOTs of colors in it) I did not want 3 solid colors in this small space. That was the reason for matching the sofas fabric. Originally, the ID wanted a print on the loveseat/settee but I did not like any print Rowe had to offer. Y'all have given me a lot to think about. Not sure what I will do. I guess I just need to be more forceful, but since we worked together on 2 other small rooms and had no issues, this "disagreement" has surprised me. But we will not have a matching pair of anything in this room if I get two different sofas. Only one side table/lamp. etc. I thought using the same fabric on two different sofas might help lessen the matchy, matchy look I have now (we have a Rowe loveseat and sofa that match now)! But we have a print on our one chair now and I did not like any of the prints this time around (plus the chair will be in front of our wildly printed drapes). Thanks everyone!

RECIPE: Take along meal ideas

Why not make some freezable casseroles? Make the casserole for a family dinner, removing one hearty portion for your hubby to a freezer container, wrapping well, and labeling, then freezing solid for him to take on the road. Doing a couple of different recipes a week will give him more variety. Broccoli and Ham Casserole 8 oz. small elbow or shell macaroni, cooked 1/4 cup butter 1/4 cup flour 2 1/2 cups milk 3/4 cup sharp cheddar cheese, grated 1 TB finely minced onion 1 t. dry mustard 1 cup mayonnaise 1 c. diced, cooked ham 2 cups, cooked, chopped broccoli 2 t. salt 1/8 t. pepper 1 c. fine dry bread crumbs mixed with 2 t. melted butter Make a white sauce by cooking the flour in the melted 1/4 cup butter for 2 minutes, then slowly adding in the milk, stirring until thick. Add the cheese, onion and dry mustard. Fold in the mayo, ham, broccoli, s&p. Put into casserole dish or dishes. Top with crumbs mixed with butter. Bake at 375 for 25-30 minutes. Cool. Wrap well and freeze. To serve: thaw, remove wrappings, heat until bubbly and top crumbs are crisp. Chicken Pot Pie - make your favorite recipe for pot pie filling, pour into single serve containers, top with a circle of pastry or thin biscuits, bake, cool, wrap, freeze. To serve: thaw, bake uncovered until bubbly and pastry/biscuits are hot and crisp. Chicken or Turkey Tetrazzini - I like the recipe at southernfood.about - freezes very well Enchiladas freeze very well, use the smaller flour tortillas so they will fit in a shorter container; package 2 to 4 enchiladas according to his appetite, ladle sauce over and top with cheese. I give these to my boys at Christmas and they say they really like them. Any beef or chicken enchilada recipe can be used. What about Bierocks? Brown ground beef with some onion, spoon off extra fat, add chopped cabbage and cook in the beef mixture until tender. Thaw bread dough and roll out portions to make an 8 " circle. Spoon on the beef and cabbage mixture, top with a piece of American cheese, fold dough over to make a meat pie. Bake, cool, then wrap and freeze. To serve: thaw, then warm, wrapped in foil until hot and cheese is melted. note: there are lots of Bierocks and Runza recipes on the web, but not too many include the slice of cheese - take my advice and add that slice or half slice of cheese on top of the meat and cabbage!

Take pictures as you go along!`

That's not the only reason to take pics...sometimes you need them to prove that someone did or did not do something...that was our experience! Our GC forgot to replace insulation in our outside wall & ceiling (where it overhangs). They claimed they did not take the insulation out and that our outside plumber must have...I had dated pictures showing the insulation was removed weeks before our outside plumber was there! There were other similar instances as well as instances when they claimed something was never there...but I had pics to prove otherwise. It got so as soon as the GC said something like that I'd respond, "I have pictures, do you want to see them?" and he'd say never mind, we'll fix it.

A lot depends on how much you want to spend.
A tablet would be the most portable and with wifi available you can easily get online, you can do pretty much anything you'd do on a laptop. The hardest part is the typing on the virtual keyboard and learning the basics of using a tablet. I feel my 8" screen on my Vizio is about perfect for me. The 7" that I have is just a little small and the 10" gets large and awkward and heavy. One great thing about them is the numerous awesome apps you can get free that can do so many things.
If you have never used a tablet why not go try one and see if you like it.
I was just at Costco and saw they have the Vizio Vtab 1008 tablet in stock again and I believe the price was reduced. They were $189.

I have both a netbook and a few tablets I like both but if portability is important I go with the tablet.
For the price and what it does the Vizio is hard to beat.
One important thing in tablets is screen resolution you want to go with the highest level.

I recently got an iPad 2 and just love it. And you don't need a camera since it takes very good pictures. Of course, the games are highly addictive!

What are you looking at? What version of android does it run that makes a great difference and most of the lower price ones run an old version.

all I want is to read my email, and post to my crazyguyonabike.com website.

Looking at weather.com would be extremely helpful too.

I ordered: Coby Kyros 7-Inch Android 4.0 4 GB 16:9 Resistive Touchscreen Internet Tablet.

the price is good for me, and what it does sounds perfect for what I need, and at a low weight to boot.

One thing to know since you got the resistive screen which is the precursor to the current type of multi touch, is that you will probably have to use a stylus on the screen. One of my old ones had that type.
You should be able to add a weather app there's lots of them to choose from, depending on what app market comes on it, you can hopefully add other markets. From those you can get what ever ereader apps you want including kindle for Android and my favorite Aldiko.
