anyone out there happy with 24' sink cabinet?
Comments (15)I have a small kitchen, and my sink cabinet is only 21" wide. It could have been 24", but I preferred to steal the extra 3" for the bank of drawers next to the sink, as they're the only drawers in the room. I have an 18" x 17" x 10" (interior dimensions) sink, and the sink and cabinet are both working out fine. The sink is big enough to handle even my largest pots and pans. I used an InSinkErator Evolution Compact disposal, and still have room in the under-sink cabinet for all of my cleaning supplies (although they are pretty packed in). Your decision really comes down to where those inches will be of the most use to you. I knew I'd rather have more drawer space (my old kitchen only had one drawer! never again!) than a wider sink/sink cabinet, so it was an easy choice for me. If I hadn't thought that an 18" x 17" sink would be sufficient for my needs, though, I would have gone with the larger sink cabinet. Have you been able to see the sink you're planning to use, and get a feel for whether it will suffice for you? Do you know what you'll be storing in the end cabinet, and whether 12" would be enough space for that?...See MorePull-outs in pantry cabinet - how wide are your pull-outs?
Comments (7)Good question! There are SO many things to think about, that really by the end sometimes I think many of us end up aware of so many details...way more than the average person, even your average contractor...etc. I just measured my pullouts. As cyycdm stated, my drawers are only 22" long, but DH installed them (we did most of the kitchen DIY), and he placed them further back (than you see in her photo). They are full extension, so you can still access every square inch, but being a bit further back allows for extra stuffing overflow of bags, etc on shelves! LOL My frameless doors don't completely clear the sides of the cabinet frame, so the carpenter had to supply 1" bumpers for the side where the door is attached, so the drawer can clear the door, I'm sure you need the same thing, only in framed, you will need those bumpers on both sides, so a loss of 2" there. My slides only take up 1/4", so there is a total of 1 1/2" wasted space, my pullouts are 15 1/2" wide for an 18" pantry. Believe it or not these had to be built 3 times before they fit...no wonder my kitchen company went bankrupt (the day my new granite was to be installed, BTW) I would question why so much space needs to be lost, that seems wasteful to me....See MorePull-down (hi arc) or pull-out faucet for 23' undermount sink?
Comments (7)They both look and sound like nice faucets. It depends on if you want or like the really tall ones. I don't care for the tall ones - but I'm short and that might be why. the reach part makes a difference where the water falls into the sink. I stood in front of my sink and put my hands out as if to wash them or clean veggies. This showed me about where I needed the spout hght to me. A low one would put it about where my hands would be, so I want it to be a bit higher - like 8-9" up from counter level. I also don't want the reach part to close to the back side of the sink either - that would cause me to have to reach to far in to put my hands under the water. try something like that with your sink and see where it's comfortable to you....See MoreDoes an 11-inch wide cabinet need to be a pull-out?
Comments (12)Thanks for the link, buehl! That's exactly what I was going to search for this morning. I do have a bit of wall on one side of the cabinet (the edge of an archway into the eating nook/butler's pantry--hence the need for the cabinet to create space for the refrigerator door swing) that would make the back third of a double-sided pull-out inaccessible from one side. plllog, thanks for throwing out the idea of modifying the frame. I think, though, that it's time for not letting the best be the enemy of the good, and keeping it simple just to get the thing ordered. To someone who always before has had to snake a hand into a thin crack between the wall and refrigerator to grab a broom, this will feel positively luxurious, even one-sided and a couple inches narrower than might have been possible. Thanks for all the help. This was the last cabinet detail, and the order will go in today. Well, we're still working on getting the stain right. There never is just "one" last detail, is there?...See Moredoonie
