bright natural light & color choices

Hello~ I'm new, and I'm grateful for the priceless benefit of experienced info. found here! I'm in my planning stages (and feeling wonderfully manic)....and would love your advice.

My kitchen has two sky-lights recently installed...and it is now crazy bright. It is incredible how my once attention-getting painted and distressed pale blue-green cabinets (accented w/ punches of red and black decor) that were so cozy in my dark kitchen now look...sad, like last summerÂs favorite tired t-shirt. Good news is that orchids and herbs can grow easily in there....and probably an orange tree. A modest kitchen redo was already planned- counters, backsplash and change in cabinet paint color. This bright light is throwing me off my decorating game -- and hubby LOVES the skylights and won't have modifying them with tint or blinds - though they are top of the line in regards to UV protection.

So....does anyone have experience / suggestions with this type of light and color? I'll have black granite counters and keeping our golden oak floors...it's the cabinet paint color (wood not an option) that I'm pondering. My home decor is "vintage modern". THANKS~ Kat
