Distance between hanging peninsula cabinent and bar ledge

I'm in the middle of putting together a layout for a new kitchen. I plan on having a peninsula with a bar ledge (if that is what it's called) and also have hanging peninsula cabinents over this bar ledge. This peninsula will be a divider between the kitchen and the dining room.

Is there a recommened height requirement between the bottom of the hanging cabinents and the top of the bar ledge? The bar ledge is not intended to be used for eating but the sink will be on this peninsula and the plan is just to be able to pass dishes from the dining room to the sink. Depending on this height requirement, it will drive whether I use 24" or 30" high hanging cabinents.

I hope I explained this sufficiently.
