Pics of large format tile backsplashes?

I'm considering a larger tile backsplash but I'm worried it will look like I put floor tile on my wall.

The cabinets have just gone in and the granite goes on today. The cabs are contemporary full overlay natural mahogany with the grain running horizontally. Here is a photo of our 'inspiration' cabinets. (Ours don't have the door and drawer fronts on yet.) The granite is black galaxy (which is solid black with little coppery/gold flecks). We have natural red oak flooring, so with all that wood grain, I thought it would be best to keep the backsplash simple.

To minimize grout lines, I thought a matte finish larger format tile would complement the glossy granite. Found one that has an acid stained concrete look and am getting a sample Friday, but in the meantime, I'd love to see other pics of anyone who has used large format tile for a backsplash. I'm really torn because my alternative idea was to go retro to reflect the mid-century modern style of our house with a tile like this:
