Machine Quilted Log

I made this log cabin for my DM. It is MQ in the ditch and she likes high loft. I usually don't but it did make the logs 'pop' more. The 3D flowers look like they have balls floating around them LOL!

I told my sister they were being used to learn my machine

quilting techniques and she said they love it.

I have been forgetting to take pics and I almost gave this to DM without taking a pic.

I made a black and blue (school colors) autograph quilt (MQ) for my DGG and forgot to take a pic and a pink and green baby stroller autograph quilt(HQ) for my niece's baby shower and forgot to take pics.

I totally planned and hosted the shower by myself. I don't recommend it. IT WAS A LOT OF WORK!!!! We had not gotten rain in 3 months and Barry decided to visit on the day of the shower. We were all so happy to have rain that no one complained and surprisingly we had a good turn out. The last pic is the wet mess the guests had to walk thru to get into our home. I had towels for each soaked guest and DH walked them in and out with a golf umbrella. We had a really good time!!!

Haha, Rosa, now you know why they call it a shower! ggg We desperately need the rain, too...almost wishing for a good hurricane!

Your quilt is lovely. It looks very snuggly! There have been lots of times I've given away something without taking pictures first. But I'm getting better at remembering! :)

Mango, I got my inspiration from the website I am linking to. Instead of starting with a rectangle, I started with a square 7 stitches wide, making 6 garter ridges and binding off on the right side. Then I picked up 7 stitches with the next color and knit 6 more garter ridges, bound off, but didn't cut the yarn. I turned the work clockwise and picked up 14 stitches along the side edge, knitted 6 more ridges, then bound off and cut the yarn. Turned the work clockwise, with the next color, picked up 14 stitches, knit 6 ridges, bind off (not cutting the yarn), turned the work clockwise, picked up 21 stitches. You get the idea. When the squares were done I arranged them the way I wanted (there are lots of possibilities), picked up one of the squares and picked up (in this case, 35) stitches along the edge that would meet the next square, knitted 6 ridges, placed the next square with the right side to the right side of the square I was knitting and bound off, going through a stitch on the extra square right along with the stitches on my needle. After I had 4 squares put together this way, I made 4 more strips like it. Then I picked up stitches along a long edge of one strip, knit 6 ridges, then bound off, going through the stitches of another strip along with the stitches on my needle. Here are several All-By-Machine quilt-as-you-go methods that I am familiar with. First, several tutorials on how to join pre-quilted blocks all by machine on the TreadleOn website. Good instructions and photos. You can use this method with any pre-quilted blocks that can be joined with sashing. Treadleon Web Site - Joining quilted blocks with sashing all-by-machine tutorial There are two books by Sharon Pedersen that have patterns for quilt-as-you-go quilts that are reversible - two different designs on each side of the quilt. You piece and quilt the blocks one at a time, quilting each block as you go. She uses a similar method as the one above (but somewhat more elegant) to join the blocks. The second book expands on that technique; there are some patterns in that book that don't look like they've been joined with sashing at all. In both books, the instructions and illustrations are excellent. Once you understand the techniques, you can apply them to your own designs. These can be done all by machine. Reversible Quilts Two at a Time More Reversible Quilts 11 New Projects Another method that can be done all by machine are the Cotton Theory designs. You quilt individual units, that you join into blocks with wide seam allowances, fold the seam allowances under, then stitch with decorative stitches. You join the blocks the same way. In this method you are dealing with units smaller than an individual block. You can watch videos of how this is done on the Sewing With Nancy website. No pictures here but, Linda Causee has a Christmas tree wall hanging featured for December in her book '365 Foundation Quilt Blocks'. It's a simple pieced tree using squares and half square triangles and then using the paper pieced 4" blocks in the book as ornaments that you 'hang' on the tree. I'm sure hanging ornaments on the log cabin tree would turn out very nice also. Though, I wish she mentioned how she hung the ornaments... Oh my, Rosa, that quilt is gorgeous! I love the colors and the flowers. Glad ya'll finally got some rain, you needed it so bad! We're getting afternoon thunder showers here and it's great. You sure have a sweet hubby, walking the guests with the umbrella. Good man!

Beautiful quilt!

Lisa - it's only sixty there? I'm so jealous!!!! It's already in the high 90's here (central TX), and will only get worse.

Donna, be careful what you wish for!!! We had a nice rain here today, but most of the state is still in drought conditions. We don't want no stinking hurricanes!!

Thanks everyone. Can you believe it had to rain on THAT day?!
My DD still lives in Central Fl and the news reported 90 degrees there and we were at 96 close to Savannah!!!
Lisa, I can't imagine it only 60 this time of the year!!! To me that is sweater weather!!!!

Very pretty quilt. I love the flowers. Can you send some of that rain to E. Texas. For once, I'd rather have rain than FQ's.

Thanks for sharing pics of your lovely quilt. I like the puffy too. Your color choice is pretty also.

Here in So. Louisiana it is already in the low 90's most days but we have been having thunderstorms which cool us down some in the late afternoon. We also need the rain.
