wool vs. acrylic stair runners

Hi. Does anyone know what the big difference is between wool and acrylic stair runners. I know that the acrylic runners are half the price of wool. Most sales people seem to think that the good quality acrylic rugs are more stain resistant than wool. They also seem to think that both runners will wear about the same.

My question is if they are so good, why are they selling the wool runners at double the price? Why even have so many wool rugs in their inventory? Do they want to make the easy sale and sell me the cheaper rug or is the quality truly as good as the more expensive rugs?

Of the two rugs I've selected, the wool rug definitely looks like it has more life to it. The acrylic has no depth to it. That being said, the acrylic rug is pretty and is 1/2 the cost of the wool runner.

I'm not a snob when it comes to rugs and I have both wool and synthetic area rugs in my home. The wool rugs definitely look livelier and more luxurious but I am still happy with my synthetic rug purchases. I'm just concerned about making the right choice on a rug we will walk on every day.
