TV for Bedroom that will be on a night stand in the corner
Comments (17)Hi Steve, I do love the TV (great sound, picture as nice as my analogue TV downstairs with only regular cable ... both could use digital cable for a clearer picture, wonderful remote, very pretty TV but so SHINY the black that I can see my reflection... wish my TV stand was wider and taller) but I do not like the pedestal look on my Night Stand (2.5" on each side hangs and to me is distracting in the pretty bedroom) and I am seriously thinking of taking it back (but upset that the sneaky salesman has on the slip that LCD's are not returnable when he made me sign the screen without reading anything and then the person came to bring it to my car and I was very sick and when I asked to see the slip before signing, he said it was everything we discussed) and buying the 26" white Sharp LCD that swivels that was only $30 less for so much less screen with only the added swivel feature... but is in white and will not overpower the bedroom I feel. I just would have to order it from Target.com and have to pay about $26 in shipping to me and then back (UPS $26 around the sales guy said who I spoke to online at Target.com today) if I do not like the off-white color that has some gray in it. It has wonderful reviews but the Toshiba had better reviews and the reviewers are right about the sound quality on the Toshiba... it is very nice and I love the TV but it is TOO black for my bedroom and too big to me. I was sick all day and now not sure what to do. It is a beautiful TV but really stands out in my white room and I wish I could just put it in the family room an buy a white TV for my bedroom that is smaller despite the smaller picture. But my TV in my family room is only about 7 years old (Black Hitachi.. 27" that cost me $199 and looks nice to me.. heavy but not as heavy as my 14.5 year old 25" Samsung TV was). Maybe I can negotiate a deal on the extended and the 26"... I sure wish PC Richards would have the Sharp TV in white. Maybe I can ask if the can order it that way for me?...See MoreLayout advice-Where to put a 2nd sink?
Comments (16)The Mr. prefers windows on both north and east sides, but isn't sure how that could work... We both like no uppers as much as possible. We could do a secretary desk, but I need a place for home office materials. I don't feel comfortable using the den/classroom/ guest room as guests will be staying in that space and as much as I trust our guests -I wouldn't want to leave our personal documents there. So the desk space could surely be removed. I don't like the countertop running into the cabinets in the dead corner, not a fan, it feels awkward to me. So no fridge in the corner...But I'm open to moving it, though it would only leave the desk space aND I'm not thinking that's a good option. And thank you for sharing your parents' junk! Lol! They've got nothing on us! We once had 4 junk drawers! I would greatly prefer to have an organized home office space. The thing there has been that the hubs works from home, this using the home office. But it'snot a home office, it's a work office in our home. So we need space for his work office AND our home office. The mudroom area in the house is a hallway and I'd MUCH prefer an actual ROOM where I could put the home office space, we have that on the list to discuss with the designer. So the desk is a temporary fix...a backup. Here is the broader layout. Not exactly to scale, and things are in flux still...need to straighten so of these corners out. The kitchen is off the screened porch, adjacent to the dining and living room. We have a very large dining table, that will be turned to extend for gatherings. The stairs are not at all acurate, other than start and finish points. There are stacked stairs from basement to 2nd story. Thinking on switching the sink/cook top. .. Appreciate the photo links! We both liked the kitchen with slate? floor and 5 chairs at the island. I don't care for the upper on the far side though. Is that neseccary to ballance the look? Hmmm... Really appreciate all the thoughts!...See MoreExercise Room turned Guest Bedroom Finishing Touches

Comments (47)coray is so right! And I will add to coray, I suggest not have lamps on the night stands at all, but having sconces affixed to the wall next to the bed. This solves several problems. This avoids having a bulky lamp on the night table, especially important when you may need to get a smaller bedside table due to the size of your room. You can get the type of wall sconce that has an adjustable height, so it will work well as a reading light for people sitting up in bed even if one is 6'3" and the other is 5'3", and will work no matter the height of the bed as well. Some of these wall sconces are plug in so you don't even need to call the electrician, and you can get the cord cover if you don't like the look of the cord. Re secretary: I do not advise getting a vintage secretary with drop-down desk with hutch to use as a work surface. When one works, one tends to lean on the desk with the weight of ones arms or elbows. Secretaries are just not made to take that weight, and the hardware holding the drop-down leaf will break off the secretary or worse, the wood of either the wooden leaf or the secretary will be significantly damaged. And fine craftsmen who know how to repair this are very hard to find. Furthermore, why is there any need for a hutch in a guest bedroom? That bed room is too small, a large piece of furniture like that will only make the room look smaller. If you need a place to store extra towels, get a hotel towel rack for the bathroom like this- You said that your son and GF will be coming for extended stays, so they need a place to keep their clothing. That is a very big closet. I would put in a closet system like ELFA to accommodate their clothing with racks and shelves, etc. so that you do not need a dresser at all in that room. (You will have 2 night stands with drawers.) This way you will have space for a small work table and chair for them. Another thought is to ask them how much time they will actually be needing a surface for their laptop. Maybe they could get by with a drop-down desk that is affixed to the wall (there are some with legs for more support) plus a (folding chair,) rather than a permanent table. https://www.decoist.com/fold-down-desks/?chrome=1 And then they could have a nice comfortable chair for reading or whatever, and a laptop holder/lap desk like these (many people use these) https://nymag.com/strategist/article/best-lap-desks.html...See Morezen4d
