Best manual pole saw/pole pruner?
Comments (20)Aliska, "What would be the cheapest, lightest, blade-replaceable one for a woman in her 60's whose arms aren't that strong any more?" "Cheapest" and "lightest" don't tend to go together in pole saws. And even the lightest pole saws are somewhat unwieldy to use and can be tiring. I'm in pretty good physical condition, but using a pole saw can be tiring for me. By trial and error, I have developed some techniques that make the job a bit easier. I raise the pole to the vertical position before extending its length. And I always lean the pole saw on the tree at every opportunity. But when you saw through a limb, the pole saw is no longer leaning against it and you have to be ready to "catch" the pole. There may be a good, cheap pole saw that would be good for you, but I don't know what it is. "Good" and "cheap" don't usually go together. MM...See MoreUtility Pole/guide wire
Comments (3)A rapid growing vine is the ornamental hops. or you can plant a wisteria which will give you lovely blooms. Choose the wisteria "Lawrence' which only takes 3 years to produce flowers. You can set up several birdhouses around it. You can set up climbing roses and clematis around it. And you can underplant it with day lilies too. You can also attached metal hooks for hanging baskets....See Moredanger in cross/trumpet vine climbing utiliity pole?
Comments (3)I don't think it's a good thing, although it's pretty it's dangerous for the utility workers. They can get tangled in it, fall, etc. It can also harbor wildlife, aggressive wildlife such as wasps! Very painful to the utility worker! Stay with something that won't climb to the top and you have a better chance of the utility company not destroying it, or at least trying to in the case of trumpet vine....See MoreMorton Home / Pole Building Home / Barndominium
Comments (7)Caveat: I'm not an architect or draftsperson so I'm hoping one of them chimes in. These are just first glance thoughts... Your foyer is huge and seems like wasted space. I would add a closet there and reorient your stairs so that they run between the foyer and the dining area (I'm assuming that's a table between the foyer and the bath/closet.) I'd have the bottom stair toward the kitchen/FR, then the empty space under the top of the stairs can be used for a foyer closet. Small item but I'd move the door on the downstairs bath to the left so that it opens across from the linen closet rather than toward the kitchen. If you're in a tornado-prone area, do you need a basement? Or other type of safe room? I think you mean dormer rather than cupola; your picture shows a cupola but if you have bedrooms on the second floor you'll need dormers with windows for egress and light. Your open space is big. Not sure the dimensions but you'll need to think about how you'll support the roof and also the floor that's over the kitchen and dining area (I don't see any walls or other kind of support for that on the first floor plan.)...See Moretriciae
