I can't answer your specific questions, but I want to advise you to consider a rangetop instead of a cooktop. It sounds like you are already aware that usually people buy cooktops in the 36" or larger size. That's because the knobs take up quite a bit of real estate of the cooking surface. A rangetop on the other hand, is like just the top part of a range, so that the knobs are not on the cooking surface, but instead are facing you on the same plane as the cabinet doors. The cooktops you are looking at with 5 burners will be a tight squeeze for your pots. You should go to a store that has them on display, and bring with you the frypan and pot you use the most, and see how they fit. If you cannot go to a 36" size, then a rangetop will be a better choice. You will have more room for your pans, and you won't have to worry that the knobs are too close to the hot pans, which may make the knobs hot, or may make you have to be careful when reaching your hand to use the knobs if they are so close to the hot pans. I also like the look of a rangetop - it has a more "professional kitchen" look, just MHO. Since you mentioned Electrolux, I looked up their 30" rangetop - which unfortunately they confusingly call a "slide-in cooktop". It does not have 5 burners, but perhaps you will like it anyway. I will link it below. If you want 5 burners in a 30" rangetop, the only one I found was by Capital. Capital has an excellent reputation on this forum as being one of the really top-notch brands. But they are priced pretty high too. Frankly, do you really think you will need 5 burners? Look at how you cook, and see how many burners you have going at once. 5 burners may be unnecessary, and crowd your cooking surface too. I need to replace my 30" gas cooktop and find myself stumped. Most seem to have 5 burners but I can't figure out how anyone could use more than 3, given how crowded the surface is. If you use 4, they lower the BTUs on the highest burner; not sure why. Does anyone have a 30" 5 burner cooktop that they like? I'm looking for the layout that is most workable and practical; not necessarily the highest BTU output. Frontrunner in the 5 burner layout is the jenn-air; don't really have one in with 4 burners.

My brain is not functioning well; I'm just now recalling our "why" . The reason I'd go for a range if I had it to do over again -- my original oven died. Well, the cooktop and oven must match and be designed to be installed one on top of the other (not all are)...and so that limits choices. Additionally, we then had the issue of finding a cooktop that would fit through the existing hole in the quartz countertop -- not an easy feat. We finally found one that was close and I purchased a special drill bit and gouged the sides to accommodate a screw that was sticking out, and we got the new cooktop in by the skin of our teeth. I'm assuming if we had a range that was 30" or 36" its a much easier issue of pulling the old one out, and sliding the new one in. Good luck with your sitatuion.
