What are the current trends or styles in carpeting?
Comments (20)I think carpet has it's place amongst some buyers. I used to be a Realtor and lots of buyers don't have the budget or want to spend the $$ on wood floors. I also think in colder weather, it helps to keep feet and rooms warmer. We have it throughout our upper level and to be honest, I don't understand why people think it requires more maintenance. I vacuum upstairs as much as I have to vacuum the wood floors on the main floor.. I also have to wash the floors on the main floor but I don't wash my carpet.. In our situation, the wood floors require more care than the carpet does....See MoreHGTV flipping homes fads and trends.
Comments (66)With Sophie/Holly playing off against each other like the Patty Lane/Cathy Lane (Patty Duke Show), only in drag. O.o Not sure how I ended up in such august company, but I'm not sure I would make a sufficient foil for Sophie. Lackey, maybe. Heh. I am so far out of HGTV's target market, I can't even see it from my backyard. In fact, we're so far out of that "mainstream" market that we can't even find what we want without REALLY hunting. HGTV shows don't really give me ideas, beyond "what not to do." Whereas I grew up watching This Old House with Dad (a frustrated fine carpenter by nature, systems analyst by trade), and then right into the New Yankee Workshop. Lots of this education has made it into our new build. The fine carpenter on the job is either going to love me or hate me. In my opinion, to answer the OP: Everything you see on HGTV is likely to be trendy and dated. Not a whiff of it respects the era of the house or attempts to convey the solidity of actual craftsmanship. Then again, few people really want that. They want the shinies. It's OK if you're really going to flip or stage a home. (I have to do some serious work on my 1940's cape to sell it once we get our house up. I'll probably actually use a few of the "trends" there to inexpensively make it attractive to Millenials - who are most of our target market for a little starter house). I wouldn't go anywhere near any of it for a house I meant to keep. Everything that looks "fresh" and new now will look old and tired in 5-10....See MoreHow has distancing affected your relationships
Comments (36)I've had to start treating my father like a stranger in his home. He let a neighbor in his house to talk, one day, then let another acquaintance walk up to his truck window to talk, a few days ago, when he was just supposed to be out to make a quick trip to the bank drive-through window. He also went to check on a water heater that wasn't working--he doesn't even like that neighbor, and the best part about that situation was--her husband works at Kroger. Dad won't wear a mask, probably doesn't wash his hands properly, and when someone comes to his door he seems to forget everything we've talked about. I take care of all of his meds, so he doesn't forget to take them, or doesn't forget and double up on them. Since the quarantine, I've also done his grocery shopping and taken him meals several times each week, to keep him out of the fast-food take-out lines. So, I'm done talking in person--I wear a mask and keep my distance, to protect both of us. I'm in and out of his house--no hanging around, unless he wants to sit on the porch at least 6' apart. We speak, at length, on the phone everyday, and I'll continue to take him whatever he needs. Texas Gem, l suspect he would agree with your parents, but I agree with you!...See MoreHow Will the Current Shortages Affect your Future Shopping Behavior
Comments (92)I'm doing limited shopping. Costco twice in 6 months, Target only curbside, food co-op every six weeks, Farmer's Market every 2 weeks and Trader Joes every 2 or 3 weeks. A local high-end grocery every 10 days or so. Haven't found paper products that I prefer, because I used to buy them at Target but they won't deliver or do curbside and I'm not going inside. Someone posted (here?) about Staples having TP, so I looked at they had the Scott 1 ply I need for my septic, but they had their own house brand that looks identical for much less $$, so I bought 2 packs of 20 rolls. Delivered in 1 day for free. They also had some sanitizing wipes (their brand) and a free hand sanitizer if you spent more than $30. I have NEVER been able to make their website work for me, so I ended up in a chat, then a phone convo, but it all worked out. I should be good for many months....See MoreRelated Professionals
