How much to pay for hemming of curtains
Comments (24)I hired a seamstress to cut off and rehem 4 panels 37" wide × 63 " long, each. She charged 80 dollars but deducted 15 dollars because I keep her supplied with hangers. I had just given her about 100 of them. I will admit I don't buy them, get them from my son-in-law as they dry clean his work shirts or wash them, not sure. I know he doesn't wash them at home, and he saves them for me. But she ended up charging me 65 dollars. I couldn't believe it . Thought it was a little much. So I will ask you ladies that are in the business, was it a fair price. The curtains were 100% Polyester. But very nice. The hangers are brand new, just used that one time, and they're the wire ones. So I really would like your opinion. If not for the hangers, she would have charged me 80 dollars for 4 panels...See MoreHow to use a panel-ready dishwasher with partial overlay cabinets?
Comments (20)Cheryl, tell me about your cabinet door.s How are you getting these done? I know your example kitchen well as it is the inspiration for MY 40's kitchen as well. ALL the cabinet makers in my area will only make 1/2 in thick slab doors with a rounded edge and a standard overlay when the originals are only 1/4 inch thick because the door is inset into the opening of the face frame with an overhang onto the frame. (so you WERE right when referencing "inset" cabinets.) The old way was to inset the door into the face frame with 1/4 inch outside the face frame. follow me? So my question is have you found someone to inet the door so the profile is only 1/4 inch? Or are you going with a standard slab and a rounded edge? I REALLY want to find an old school maker to have "real" vintage cabinets....See Morecustom panel for dishwasher that matches cabinets? yes/no?
Comments (23)We had a Thermador dishwasher with custom panel at our last house and loved it! We'd open the DW after the cycle to help air-dry the dishes too, and you could see the steam coming off but there were never any warping issues. Maybe it depends on the quality of the panel's wood? It was next to the fridge though, so sometimes we'd bang the slightly ajar door with the fridge door and the alignment became off-kilter (I was able to adjust that on my own with some elbow grease though!) so probably don't place it next to the fridge LOL. In our new house, we are planning to buy a Bosch DW with custom panel. Good luck!...See MoreWhat are/did you pay(ing) for your kitchen renovation?
Comments (13)Licensed contractor who's work I know from previous projects. Cabinets are running about 1,000 a linear foot for 3/4" plywood construction in red birch. We have samples on everything and no, the work isn't sub-par, cheap, or poorly constructed. It is a local cabinet maker. Our neighbor and friend is a master electrician and has done the rest of our home and will be doing the kitchen. My husband's other buddy is doing the taping - he is a union taper and has bartered with my husband. My aunt's husband is a finish carpenter and will be replacing and restoring the original millwork at family rates. It is a small kitchen in an old bungalow. Stove, fridge and hood are Cafe` they cost just under $8,000 and I am keeping a newer dishwasher, just getting a new door to match the other appliances. The span on the beam is only 6ft. We are taking the mudroom and pantry and adding it to the kitchen. I have a large laundry off the kitchen and we are taking space from that for the pantry and additional kitchen storage. We have preserved as much of the original house as possible through every renovation. This is the last room to be done after owning the home for 10 years. We did a gut on the upstairs two years ago and added larger closets and an additional bathroom. The millwork was custom so it matched the rest of the house. All the floors, doors and windows on the first floor are original. The windows are 3 over 1 with wavy glass. We had them all weatherproofed and restrung by someone recommended by our local historical society. We don't want a modern kitchen we want a functional one that suits the house. Now that I know I am on target for cost, trashy comments aside, I thank you for the input....See MoreRelated Professionals
