Scratches in Stainless Steel Cooktop

I have a DCS/Fisher & Paykel cooktop which is about 6 months old. I am extremely careful cleaning the stainless steel surface below the grids; however, I am finding lots of scratches upon cleaning. The instruction booklet says to clean "in the direction of the polish lines" with warm water and soap. I find it extremly hard to even find the direction of the "polish lines."

I spoke directly to the manufacturer and they suggested using Revere cleaner. When I asked about the polish lines, they said you just have to look for the direction.

Can anybody offer any advice, as to prevent future scratching?

Thanks
