Here is the main view of our kitchen, please remember we are nowhere near done yet. The panels for the pantry and fridge are not in yet, and the fillers are missing, and nothing is level, etc.... So it is hard to get a good feel for what effect the slight overhang will have. I have a feeling it wont look too bad... But now I am more concerned about the discoloration! And yes, we definitely stated we wanted flush. I attached a picture below of the other piece of granite that was installed correctly as flush. So it is possible. Also, I attached a pic of the kitchen that was our insipiration. We saw the showroom for this kitchen and loved it and decided to copy it. That kitchen had flush countertops AND we actually hired the exact same company who did the countertop for that showroom!!!! We hired them because we thought they would know what they are doing and be perfect for the job. I guess we were not lucky. Hmmmmm, what should I do? I wonder what that discoloration is? They installed the counters on Wednesday, so I cant imagine the discoloration is from dampness. I supposed if we have to redo the counters due to the discoloration, then that would solve the overhang issue. I am a Fabricator, and from what I am seeing (based on your posted pics) - here's my " .02 cents worth" : OBJECTIVE 1. it appears that you have 2CM (3/4") thick stone tops, but without a depth measurement - the stone could be 3CM - you will have to indicate wit a pic or measure the thickness of the stone and share that in order for me to make a more accurate opinion on the overall situation (OK... I just read one of the posts from earlier today that indicates that this is 3CM thick stone- Can You Confirm with a pic please) 2. it appears that your overhang is some where in the area of 1" to 1 1/4" from the face of the cabinet - again - a pic showing the measurement taken from the FACE of the CABINET will help to answer this question 3. you have plywood subtops 4. the plywood was "capped" by a wood trim strip - IF this indeed a 3CM job - the plywood is not required (per MIA Design Manual - Version 7 - which I have in my office of my Fabrication Shop, and use and refer to on a daily basis) Marbles wrote: "I thought we discussed a 1.25" reveal, but my GC told me that we agreed on 1 1/8" reveal. I didn't get that in writing, as I have learned I should've. My GC and the fab are close buddies, only the pencil edge is noted in our contract." To this I would say - Do you have a diagram with dimensions noted, or were you shown a sample of the amount of the overhang would be? Based on all of this (and from what I have seen in the past) were your slabs possibly "squeakers" ? = your Fabricator was "just able to get everything to "squeak" by - size wise... your slabs were not really big - hence the overhang being a smaller dimension than the national standard of 1 1/2", or, by design - somebody told the saw man to cut the tops a litlle bit shallow (less than 1 1/2" overhang) - re-reading your earlier posts - I would shoot this theory down too, as your statement you made said "I bought 2 slabs, so there was plenty of space for the layout (my kitchen is on the smaller side)." If this is indeed the case, how much stone was leftover after all of the pieces were cut out? (just curious) Typically - 3CM stone is set directly on the cabinets - NOT on plywood subtops. Does this make for a bad install? IMHO = NO, however, it does show me that someone (Fabricator) was not thinking here, or is inexperienced, or just goofed up = or a combination of all of the above..... Advertguy - plywood subtops are installed ON TOP of the cabinet assembly - never recessed like you described = this would not make for a good install, and would be a waste of time, effort and materials (IMHO). this sink does appear to be supported adequately for my taste (as this is how SS sinks are set for 2CM applications everyday of the week and twice on Sundays... HA! Marble - you should pull out ALL of your documentation from the GC and your Fabricator to see if a diagram or dimensions are documented as to what IS now installed - and what WAS promised. As far as your Fabricator goes = The "This is the way we've always done it" defense does not work when you get to court, (and I hope that your current path does not lead you there), but if it does - you need to have the facts straight and have them supporting your argument. There needs to be some evidence supporting what you got versus what you paid for - otherwise, this while issue becomes a subjective study in personal aesthetics - "what I like is not always what YOU like" In all fairness to your Fabricator - it looks like he did give you an overhang, and the edge of the stone is even or a tiny bit more than the drawer fronts. What is still in quaetion is "who told them to do it this way - or did THEY (your Fabricator or your GC or both) decide FOR YOU as to the amount of front leading edge overhang you were to receive? IF what was installed is what was agreed on - you have no recourse IF on the other hand - you INDICATED a set dimension, and said dimension was NOT delivered - THEN you DO have a case. Your "case" can be as simple as getting some form of remediation because the overhang not what you had agreed to = or a total re-do....... My best advice to you is this: keep things civil and try to be as reasonable as possible under the circumstances, but also - stand your ground if you KNOW that what you got was the wrong goods, but you need to be able to prove it..... Thank you everyone! It is very confusing as to what to do. The issue is that they did a standard 1 1/2" overhang even though the cabinets are very close to the wall. Seems like it would be a mess to fix in place - they'd be shaving off about an 1", which doesn't seem like it would be all that easy. Taking it off and doing it in the workshop 45min away doesn't seem that easy either. I think, perhaps, that once we have "moved back in" to the kitchen, it might not be as apparent. It is very similar to mama_goose's picture (which I thank you for, by the way!). There will be things to distract your eye from it, maybe. So, I guess we'll live with it and see what happens. I may call the granite fabricator and just see what they could do, should we decide to have them rectify the situation. Thanks again - your ideas and thoughts were helpful! Glad to hear that, while it isn't totally right, it isn't the worst thing!

I wouldn't do a backsplash on the return wall ... I did and wished I hadn't. No one does them around here anymore. If the wall is in an area where it will get frequent splashes, that's one thing; but if not, I'd forgo the splash there. Patching those holes doesn't look like a big deal. I would definitely ask that they be fixed. You shouldn't have to have something you don't want just because your contractor doesn't want to do a minor drywall repair.
