Happy Summer Solstice, Everyone!

Here we are 1/2 way though the year and starting Summer. I finally got some serious work done on the wedding quilt I'm making for my niece and completed the center, pieced section. That's the biggest part of the quilt so I'm feeling pretty good about that. I also found the perfect 108" backing fabric this weekend and I'm excited about that too! Now I just have to get all the borders measured, cut, matched for pretty mitered corners, and sewn on. Then it's off to the long armer by July 1. Finally, I feel like I'm going to get this quilt done!

Isn't it nice to see progress. And finding the perfect backing fabric is always a relief. Be sure to post pictures, we would love to see it.

LOL - Oh, there will be LOTS of pictures! I've struggled with this one for months and will be dancing in the streets when it's done. I will expect you all to celebrate with me!

Yes!!!! Happy Winter Solstice to you, too, Dennis! I'm celebrating with my second beer today after a hectic day at work. We got bare root fruit trees in just after lunch and that's my section, so I got to organize and put up 6 or 8 hundred trees. Peaches and plums and apples, oh my! Exciting stuff!! It's been so long since we got a plant delivery of any size. It's been twelve flats of vegetables, 30 one-gallon perennials, 40 poinsettias, etc., per week off of little 12' box trucks or pickups for the past couple months ~ two trucks per week total if we were lucky, sometimes none at all. Depressing when I'm used to four to nine 30' box trucks and semis dropping literally thousands of plants in the driveway per day (yes, per day) for three days running each week, filling up the whole *cussin'* driveway as they wait to be labeled and stocked in the different sections. So today of all days, the Winter Solstice, for us to get the first real big delivery of the year! Beautifully fitting. It came a bit early ~ weren't really expecting this delivery 'til the first of January. But I'll take it. *Happy dance for spring!* I love living in Texas. Just a bit more. Day length mid summer 14:12 Day length mid winter 9:53 Just had an extra glass of wine to celebrate reading all those posts from guys who no longer post. The good old days syndrome. Actually we are not having Christmas Dinner with the Nazis (relos) this year. This is because the Chief Nazi (the Dragon Woman's mother) got out her calculator and worked out that there would be 13 sitting down to dinner....and if that happened it would be on the cards that one of the 13 would certainly die. So we are having dinner here where there will be no arguments about politics, religion or anything at all. Heaven!!!!

..adding Happy Solstice to everyone, as well! 11 am and I'm just in from poking (albeit slowly!) around the yard since about 7 am. (I confess, the last hour I was in and out of the pool - weeding the pool garden, of course!). There was a baggie with a half dozen amaryllis bulbs that had never been poked into the ground so they went in this morning. Also, potted a canna that we purchased last weekend..plugged up the hole in the bottom of the pot - hopefully it will stay wet enough. Watched butterflies and found some new caterpillars on the dying parsley...never had these kind in my yard before. a couple of monarch chrysalis. Stuck a mexican sunflower stick into a hole. planted an african blue basil that I'd started from a cutting...and two mounding zinnia. For me, it's a good solstice!! :) I hope for you, as well.

You'll probably be happy dancing through the rest of process, Kate.

We ought to time the dance so we're all dancing in the streets at the same time and confuse any pilots who happen to see it! LOL

We will come to the party!! Happy the summer is starting off so well for you. Send some of that progress this why if you can, I need something to put me back on line.

Like you, Kate, I have just finished piecing the center of a gift quilt. Mine is going to my DH's niece in England. She's just 2 months older than DH, so it has to go soon, LOL. They're both in their 70's.

I'm halfway through making the two pieced borders for this one. I'm actually following a pattern, which is rare for me.

But getting the center done was a WOOHOO moment!

Let me know when the communal dancing in the streets begins, LOL. I can bring the woad! Who doesn't like a blue-painted face??

Happy Summer Solstice, Kate (and everyone)! I did think of you on that very day: Monday...especially with your GW name. Was traveling on 75 to return to FL...just in time for the heat of summer!

Glad to hear of your progress on your Niece's quilt!
