CL project dresser

I'm hoping to go see this today. The price is good, and I can use it in my guest room. If I get it, not sure what I should do to it.

The GR is a sort of transition room right now. I am not sure if I want to go British Colonial or Shabby Chic. Walls are a deep golden yellow, trim is raspberry. I have vintage furnishings, the bed is painted olive green and I have olive green drapes with greenish tint woven blinds. Bedding can either be a raspberry/pink/green velvet patchwork quilt or a white matlesse throw.

So, paint or stain? I'd change out the hardware, but need some good ideas on this one. Thanks!

Looks like it has good bones and is a great price. You could always paint it olive green to match the bed and then add some pink hardware.

The link says the ad was deleted by the author/owner, did you get it? Post pics :)

And IF you have a hobby lobby near by be sure to check there for your pulls (or order online) they have GREAT repo glass pulls and glass and other vintage style knobs for a very good price, and look for 1/2 off sales and stock up (like I do).

That is a cheap veneered dresser from the mid 1920s. It might be sturdy and worth the $75 or it might be a wobbly bit of crap. You'll have to see it in person to tell. The chip is too large to sand or smoother "a bit". You would have a smooth edge to a large mi8ssing chunk. Either live with the damage, or fill it with wood putty and paint the dresser.

I think it's beautiful! I would tend to agree (with very little expertise on my part) that it's probably a mahogany 1930s or 1940s dresser. I've heard them termed "Federal" style too. I have a somewhat similar (though different details) wide dresser and I love it. In my area it's difficult to find older wide mahogany dressers and so I would probably snap this one up in a heartbeat. For my area $250 sounds like a great deal, but I think it's always a good idea to start with a lower bid. As long as the drawers operate nicely and everything is in pretty good shape, I'd say it's a keeper.

Vampire, great to hear! I was hoping that the colors would come off as more mature. "Elegant" is good to hear. Nanabella, I love your Wedgewood analogy! Beth, I know what you mean. This is the only piece of painted furniture in my house unless you count my gold nightstands. But this is completely new territory for me. It feels like a fun creative challenge. Franksmom, thanks! If plan B didn't work, I was thinking about offering it to one of my nieces to paint up fun. Glad it did though because I really need the storage. Justgotabeme, don't worry! The wood is nicely protected under 3 coats of paint. :O) I know you aren't a fan of painted furniture so it means a lot that you like it. LOL, thanks Cooper. I would love to be the queen of something other than the kitchen. :O)

Here's a picture. It's kind of dark in the room right now. It's a pretty honey yellow pine. Above the two drawers is another drawer without pulls. It's obvious that the piece was stained dark at one point, trying to simulate a fancier wood. There's reddish stain in places and all of the bun feet are stained, with the rear one being very dark. The pulls are wood with little metal flowers in the middle. Now, I need to figure out how to fix the drawers. P.S. If anyone is interested: They also had a bed for sale in tiger oak with really amazing turned spindle posts. Haven't been able to find anything like that online.

I JUST missed it. Dang it. It was really cute and would have been perfect for my GR. I don't have a HL nearby, but I do have some sources for glass knobs and great vintage fixtures. One nice thing about my town is that there are a lot of salvage places. And I always pick up hardware at GS or thrift shops when I find it. Never know when I'll use it!

So, I'm on the hunt again now for a chest of drawers. I'm REALLY hoping to find a lingerie chest like the one you scored RJ. I want something like that to use for jewelry.
