Help-need to stick with decision and order!!

Hi All, I've been lurking a long time and now just need a little push. The cabinets were ordered months ago and the installation is set to start at the end of April. I need to order the sink and faucet but everytime I think I've decided I panic and start suffering the web for something I might not have considered. I've put more thought into the faucet finish than I did into marrying my husband!!

I am almost positive of the 1830 Shaws sink and newport brass satin nickel 94P and soap dispenser. I originally was looking at the polished nickel vinnatta, but the height I think is overwhelming for my 7.5 ft ceiling height. The NB polished nickel seemed a little cloudy in the showroom so the satin seemed like a good alternative.

The cabinets are medallion shaker in divinity white, island is appaloosa finish, a warm distressed gray, the rest of my house is pretty traditional (florals, checks, plaids, and polka dots)

So my questions-How do I just commit already and order the items? Has anyone had a bad experience with any of the items I metioned? Is committing to the faucet finish committing to all the hardware remaining? And how to I stop looking and thinking oh I wish I had done that before my kitchen is even started?

Jean, Are you happy with your husband? Then you should be happy with your sink and faucet! LOL At some point you have to say enought is enough (I haven't gotten there yet, still working on layout) and be happy with our choices. A sink and faucet, if you really and truely hate them, can be replaced. HTH

Your choices sound nice. I know of GWers who get the matching "prep" faucet if the larger one is too big. This way, you get the style in a trimmed down size.

Hi again. After taking some time to think about some thing (and recuperating from the flu!), I made a few decisions. but my architect strongly recommended putting the clean-up sink on the island because it "fosters social interaction with friends and family . . . especially teens For the most part, I agree with this. However, I've decided to keep the clean-up at the window and keeping a prep in the island. One reason...I realized that almost everytime someone comes over, I am standing at the sink doing dishes. Whether it's another mom or a family member, they are sitting on a stool and I am washing dishes. I am very tired of that and I imagine it doesn't make them feel very welcome. Another reason...when I am doing dishes and the kids are sitting there for homework, either I am not giving them my undivided attention, or I get sidetracked and the dishes don't get finished. Also, since the kid's pretty much clean the kitchen after dinner, having their backs to the great room would certainly keep them focused on their task. Is that wishful thinking? Finally...we all like to prep together and that will be more fun if we can all be around the island. And I love the idea of using the island prep sink for drinks at parties. I'm guessing you are not a baker Actually, we are avid bakers. I like the idea of the MW and ovens separate so that while one might be using the MW another can be removing things out of the oven. I don't see a problem with meandering teens with the wide aisles. Yes, the DW needs to stay on the cooktop side since that doorway leads to the pantry. It also leads to a guest suite which will probably be occupied by my mother. However, thanks, to Rhome, I am seriously considering putting a second DW in the island. The handyman will be back the first week in March to pour footings where the load bearing walls are coming down. After that we order the 20 foot headers! Thanks so much for your input. It really helped me put things into perspective. Now I need to decide if that buffet counter is going to be nothing more than a clutter magnet!

I'm all for preserving the view. An attractive view out the windows adds much enjoyment to living in a house. We have either bought homes because they had wonderful, big windows (along with house size & condition, of course) or else we've added or enlarged windows to bring in the view. It would be helpful to post a picture of your house before commenting on the window style, but if you didn't find the large upper/small lower configuration objectionable, then I say go ahead & stick with it. Will you be going with a fixed upper and awning lower?

Crepuscule is a rose that thrives in daylong full sun and would benefit from heat. I don't think Reve d'Or is quite so picky. If only one spot has those characteristics, give it to Crepuscule. It will not please you in a semi-shaded position. After all, you originally de-selected Reve d'Or, so you could pass that one along to a gardening friend if you don't really want it. Rosefolly

When we remodeled our kitchen a couple of years ago, we skipped the range bit and went with a Bluestar electric wall oven and a Wolf induction cooktop.. We really like the Bluestar because there's no bending over, the french doors don't stick out very far, and you can put a full size baking tray in or a dozen "take to work" loaves. The induction cooktop cooks fast and keeps the kitchen cool. Next time it will be a Bluestar induction--which wasn't even announced when we did the remodel--cooktop because the Bluestar has knobs. The touchscreen and I don't get along all that well :-)

I think you're experiencing decision paralysis. Very common condition 'round these pars. Most likely whatever you decide will be just fine. Think about it, you've already waded through tons of style, finishes, manufacturers, etc. and have narrowed it down to just a few -- in all likelihood any of the ones you're currently considering will work out just fine and worst case scenario you can live with it a little while and yank it out if you have to, but that's very unlikely to happen -- in all likelihood you'll love it.

BTW, I also have 7.5' ceilings and went with a faucet that's over 30" tall and after ordering it I fretted about it being a mistake and looking like a "monstrosity in the landscape" but it turned out to be just fine, great really. Really, relax it will all be o.k.

Jean -- I thought this might be an April Fool's prank by my husband because you and I share the same name (Jean) AND, more importantly - decision paralysis! However, I KNOW he doesn't know what a Shaw's sink is. Lol!

What we both need is perspective and understanding that -- after looking at everything you have, you are probably making the best (or, at the very least, an excellent) choice; the final result is going to be 100x better than what we've now got; and we are truly blessed to be living lives in which sink and faucet choices are our greatest concerns of the day.

Both of your faucet choices are lovely and very similar -- I think you will be happy with either. I had the full size Vinnata in my last kitchen (with 8' ceilings) and loved it. I do not think it would be too big for 7.5" ceilings, but the Vinnata also comes in a smaller model. The NB faucet is also lovely, and, as I said, very similar in style. Just flip a coin and order one.

I too have 7.5 ft. ceilings. While I can't speak to your specific sink and faucet combination, I can tell you that in our recent reno we went with a Blanco 9" deep undermount sink and Blanco Max faucet. (I'm attaching a link to the faucet below) The faucet has roughly the same demensions as yours and we think we made the right choice. As far as the finish is concerned, while I think that everything surrounding the sink should probably match, I wouldn't worry about matching any other finishes in the rest of the kitchen. In our case, we went with satin nickel for the faucet as the sink has a brushed stainless finish. The soap dispenser is also satin nickel.

Remember, this is the sort of thing that can be changed down the road if you decide that you hate it. The bottom line is that you've made so many correct decisions to this point it would be unlikely that you'll get this one wrong.
