no. our pool is brand new and plumbed for this but since we keep getting surprised by our PB with "extras" we have told him to deduct the pool cleaner and we are going to buy it ourselves.Todays extras included $300 to haul dirt, $400 for stone wall that we understood to be included and only a $200 credit for the 250 legacy heater that we switched out for the LD400 (he had told us the credit would be $1200 and is only giving us $200. He does not use work change orders. We are just trying to get thru this build as he has been difficult, hanging up on us 3 times. I am looking for guidance of where to buy it. does anyone know anything about bargainpoolsupplys.com? any other suggestions? How difficult is it to put it in ourselves? My husband is an engineer and can do most any type job like this.

When you said your understanding was it was included, is it in the contract?

Stick to your guns WRT the use of change orders. If it isn't written, it wasn't said. Without change orders OKed in advance, why would you pay? That would be like me telling you that you now owe us $$$s for our advise when no such agreement was made in advance.

I'm not saying that some of his charges aren't legitimate and reasonable, just that they should be in writing and agreed upon in advance, not just "Here's an invoice".

When you say legacy heater, was there a removed pool that you had a heater from?

How old was the heater? Was it in resalable condition?

So you'll need the booster pump too? I would suggest that you buy the sweep and booster, if needed, locally. This way you can get support.

Bargain sites often aren't a bargain. Look at saltcells.com and its offspring.

There are lots of different engineers. A design engineer who creates custom microprocessors might not be well suited to wiring and plumbing. Many pool companies will not install something not purchased through them without a significant up charge.

I do factory authorized service for all major brands of pool equipment. Regarding items bought on the internet I will either refuse to do warranty work or will charge a significantly higher labor charge. If you buy a product from me or another local pool builder/service I will gladly do warranty service in a timely manor. Internet warranties will only be done after all other customers have been serviced.

Buy locally and you will get support. Try to save a buck and you will get what you pay for. There is no 'add customer service button' on that website. And your computer cant fix your equipment.

Thanks for this advise. We will have a PB install in the spring. Does anyone have a comment on the $200 credit from a LD400 to a legacy 250???

The $200 makes more sense to me as the price of the two heaters is about the same. The LD is larger but the LXI is more expensive, thus the price is close. I'm confused, though, which one are you getting?

Not getting the LXI which is the expensive one we are getting the legacy their newer low price heater it is not the same price as the LD.
If anyone knows the difference between the price of a LD400 and a legacy250 I would appreciate it. Since the LD400 is no longer being made it is difficult for me to find this information.

I'm sorry for the confusion. The legacy is model LRZ,which I have never seen because the distributors in my area are still trying to get rid of the LD,LJ,and LG models in stock. They will not provide me a price because they have none. The current Zodiac catalog lists the LD400N at $3,305.59. The LRZ is not even in the catalog.
Zodiac is the parent company of Jandy, Polaris, Nature2, Levelor and Baracuda.

they wont give you a price or even allow you to special order, thats crazy. I phoned the distributor in my area and they would not give me the prices but had no trouble telling me the difference in price between models. It seems my PB has pocketed an extra $400 off my change. I will be happy when the pool is finished.

Each issue needs to be treated by itself. Seeking reciprocity by cancelling the pool cleaner will only hurt you. The pool builder could charge you whatever he wants for running the line thats already in place. It still needs to plumbed into the system wired into the control system, set up after the finish is cured, demonstrated and warrantied.

Walls and haulaways are typically discussed during the design process and included in the the contract. $300 for hauling isn't unreasonable and it would be hard to build any kind of stone wall for $400. If the wall wasn't in the plan or the contract, why do you think it was included? Who decided to put it in?

$700 is not enough money to sour a contract and it would be in everybodies best interest to kiss and make up before you have a nightmare on your hands. Fighting your way through the contract is a bad way to finish a project that you will live with for years to come.

Let me clarify. The wall was in the contract and design. He has decided that he wanted to charge us extra for it. He never even mentioned this just had his wife send us the bill. The same thing with the hauling. He does not show up when promised and if we call to see when he may show up he hangs up on us. Are you getting the picture. We just want to finish up the project at hand and will re visit the pool cleaner later.

So send him a copy of the contract and highlight the wall and hauling. Add a note that you have already paid for it. Thats what contracts and plans are for.
