For your kitchen, I see cream tiles with brown accent pieces.
I like the idea of glass too. I have never thought about kitchens being masculine but I thnk that even without a backsplash, that is "kinda" how it looks now.
Your accessories will help soften the look. With this U- shaped kitchen, I can see a large rug in the middle.
Also a window treatment will help.

With the red pendants and modern hardware, it looks like your style 'wants' mosaics. I think a mosaic would look great! I think you can do something bold on the b/s -- everything else is neutral, except for the pendants. I don't think it would look too masculine. Maybe use a more muted colour for the b/s to 'feminize' it a bit if you are concerned about it.

On the other hand: I love the subways posted by kitchenaddict. However, I think the red pendants would look out-of-place with the subways. I don't know...what do you think? It just seems like mosaics would be a more natural fit in this kitchen.

Nadine - With the red pendants, have you planned some red accents elsewhere? I was trying to think how you might incorporate some into the backsplash until I saw kitchenaddict's photo. Now I still think you need some red accents, just not on the backsplash.

Yes we have red accessories (kitchen aid mixer, and a few other countertop accessories). We used to have a red toaster but it died and we ended up with a SS one now. I was thinking red for valance over window too. We don't have to keep the red pendants though...I just thought the room would need a punch of color so I purchased those before the kitchen was built.

I am advocating for back painted glass!
I want them for my kitchen and hoping someone else out there installs them to see how it looks.

I like those glass tiles. I was just on Mission Stone & Tiles website tonight and I saw something similar. If you contact them, they will send you samples in some different colors too.

Here are a few more kitchen with Espresso cabinets and glass mosaic tile backsplashes. The pictures are from Houzz. I think any tiles similar to these would look great in your kitchen.
