Small bathroom update - wall and vanity color

We are doing a minor facelift on our 3/4 bath in the lower level of our ranch home, planning to enlarge it in a few years. The bath is located off our half-exposed family room which is SW Blonde with SW Dover White beadboard and built in entertainment center. The bath is small with no windows. Both rooms have oak trim which is stained a light walnut color, not as orange as most oak trim. The bath has a light grey shower stall and toilet and the counter is an off white marble with grey veining. We stripped the pastel floral wallpaper off. I found a peel and stick vinyl tile that is off white with some grey, some light tan and a little darker tan.

If we use this tile, would the walls look okay painted a lighter version of SW Blonde? What color would you paint the vanity (Currently oak with water damage on the finish)and mirror frame?

Any suggestions on a shower curtain? Towels?

Just to bump this up, and thought I'd add that it might help us to visualize and provide more suggestions if you could possibly post a picture of the bath and the adjoining FR. Your family room sounds pretty with the beadboard (love it!). Maybe you could continue the beadboard into the bath and paint or gel stain the vanity black.

You've most likely painted by now. But if you haven't, just try out your Blonde paint in there, since you probably still have a partial can sitting around. Doesn't cost anything but a little time to try it. I kinda think you'll need something a bit different to go with the light grey. I wanted desperately to go with Restoration Hardware Cappuccino or Flax in my bath. But even though anything with gold tones clashed with my beige/taupe tile, the Cappuccino was too off and the Flax too dark. Take a look at their website to see if one of those types of colors would work for you. I would do a white terry shower curtain with a greyed brown wall color, and towels in the flax or mocha tones in there.

Have you seen Strasser Woodenworks? They have 30" wide vanities with 3 drawers in them. And they come in 21" deep or 18" deep versions, so if you need a smallish vanity they might work. If a room is already a little dark, sometimes embracing that is the best bet. I say go dark, but I lean more towards a deep teal or navy over a grey, just because you already have a lot of grey with the flooring and vanity.

Thankyou for the advice.. . . it's nice to have some constructive feed back. we have already replaced the floor under the tub ( which ironically was the only thing not damaged by water- but it was very clearly worked on at some point and we had to redo the plumbing as the pipe for the hot water was literally bowed out with pressure from the sag I guess. I was glad that we did move it because that would have ruined all the work we are putting in. I did see there are "cheap" tubs to be had and that might just be the way to go . I need to do some research because currently the tub is one unit and I don't think we want to deal with tiling the wall so I want to find the right style for the surround and see how much we would realistically be looking at. Everything I touch has a huge pricetag but I find with a little work I am able to find ways around that- for example my husband is building the vanity to make the price tag on the out of budget sink fit in. I'm sure we can do something someplace to afford the tub :) I am trying to have a " we have come this far" attitude about this .

Dear Weedyacres: One bedroom is 13 x 25, the other is 12 x 18. The other bathroom which is not in the drawing serves two bedrooms and one of those bedrooms is really tiny. On the other side of it is the dining room, so no way to make that smaller. I guess the only possibility at this point would be to loose the tiniest bedroom and turn the current master bath into one with the spiral shower, but I don't like that idea at all because we mostly heat that part of the house with the fireplace and I wouldn't want to loose a bedroom in the main section. Plus I think that really might affect resale value. Probably best to leave as is. I am so thankful for everyone's input because I think it's helping me to see that the spiral shower is a no go. Actually, the house isn't the main feature for me. The main feature is the two acres and lots of woods and the sun room with wall to ceiling windows. And the room we will use for dancing which actually brings me to another problem. The house is on a slab and we want hardwood. Sounds like engineered is the only way to go. We keep this room about 50 degrees and we want something that won't hurt our feet like tile would do. Thanks again for your help. I really do appreciate it very much.
