Glad you understand the hesitation (don't ask me about my experience with identity theft...). Anyway, thanks for posting this. I'm in the other Lakes Region...Sunapee area.

I know Quilted Threads very well, also Golden Gese and Keepsake. Quilted Corner is the one in the old mill building in Tilton? I haven't been in yet, but have been meaning to.

How about Peggy Anne's in Concord (www.peggyannes.com), Constant Quilter in Andover (www.constantquilter.com) and Sunshine Carousel in Grantham (www.scqs.com).

I went to the Capital Quilters Guild show in Concord last month and there was a booth from a shop that I am dying to visit. Pickering Farm (www.pickeringfarmquiltshop.com) in Richmond (south of Keene about 5 miles from the Mass line). It's a trek, but they specialize in the 1800's reproduction fabrics I love.

Are you planning on going to the show in Manchester in August? And did you find your sweet tea recipes?? (teehee)

I have always thought I'd like to visit N.H. because I hear it is beautiful but now I have another reason-quilt shops. Oh, my envy is showing now! :)

Sorry for any confusion...it was Lisa who mentioned sweet tea. What's a state line between friends, eh? It's new (to me) to have other northern New Englanders on the same forum. I feel really stupid!

Sally, do come visit New Hampshire. It's just as gorgeous as they say! And remember, all that fabric is tax-free!!

hehehe...jd, I DID find the recipe and fully intend on making it, thank you so much! I first fell in love with it when DS went to college in KY and I ate at Cracker Barrell for the first time. Arizona iced tea company puts out a very good sweet tea, but it seems to be seasonal at best here. I can drink it year round for sure. Again, thank you!

Hi there,
Just butting in on your thread to say thanks for the quilt shop recommendations. I'm going to New England on holidays this year (NH and ME). I was there last year and went to Keepsake Quilting which was heaven. Our fabric shops here have one dark dusty corner of fabrics with very little choice so I was overwhelmed at Keepsake. I had to keep going back because I just found I couldn't think while I was in the shop- there was just too much distraction! I'll have to check out your other recommendations this year.

By the way, when's the show in Manchester? I'm there til Aug 10th so I'm hoping....

Sorry to bump this thread, but I can't reach mellow-yellow any other way and I didn't want her to think us Americans rude. Besides, the Irish hosted my daughter for a year and I am grateful for their kindnesses.

Mel, the Manchester show (World Quilt Show XI) runs August 16th to 19th. Sounds like you'll just miss it, sorry. The link below will give you a lot more quilt shops in both states that you may find of interest. Have a safe trip!

I'm glad your daughter had a good year in Ireland. There's been a lot of change in our country over the last 10 years, not all of it good and I think we're losing the friendliness we've always been known for as we've gotten richer. So it's good to hear your daughter was made welcome!

I love traveling to the US. We had such a great time last year in New England that we decided to go again. I hope it lives up to the memories.

I see you're from New Hampshire, you lucky thing! I spent a college summer on Squam Lake many moons ago and I was hooked. Some day I'll go to NH for the changing of the leaves. The photos just look awesome in the true sense of the word.

There is also a shop in Sanford, Me. called Kathie's Quilt Shop. She has a website but I can't remember it right now. She is having Carol Doak teach paper piecing in Sept. and I'd love to go but can't decide if I can make plans that far ahead!

jd-there is also a newer shop in Northwood that was recommended to me at my son's hockey practice this winter: I think it's called Checkerberry's. It does have a website so you could google it.

Mel, did you know that Squam Lake is where they filmed On Golden Pond in 1981? Good movie and it may refresh some pleasant memories for you. My daughter has yet to be successful in finding bread as good as what she had in Dublin! It is a time she will never forget. The people are a large part of the reason for that.

JD, if you saw my waistline you'd tell your daughter it's a good thing she can't find that good Irish bread over in your neck of the woods. And of course you can't have it without the great Irish butter. And lashings of my mother's homemade jam. Oh sod the waistline, it's worth it!!!!

Yes I've seen On Golden Pond and it brings back lovely memories. When I was in NH last year I revisited the camp where I worked (Rockywold Deephaven) and that was a real trip down memory lane. It was and is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to. I looked into staying there when we were planning last year's holiday but it would have cost for one week what it cost for the whole 3 weeks accommodation costs. Oh well, maybe when I win the lottery....
