Need to pick your brains about a product sold in the seventies

door to door like Avon. They were cosmetics and the items were sent to the dealers in purple octagon shaped containers, with plastic loop handles.

I think it was called Lady Fenal. I'd be surprised if anyone knows about this, but this is a good first stop.

My mom used to sell Vanda Beauty Products, they were in purplish blue containers, the lotions, cosmetices, etc.... Don't remember any octagon shaped containers but I was a little kid back then.

The only one I can remember was Cosmetique ( or something like that).

Hey, thejimbar- Since you responded to at least one post of mine I would like to respond to yours. When I found this forum it was because I almost went down the road with a pool builder with "questionable creditials". I found a post on this forum saying someone was also put off by their salesperson who was not very forthcoming with all the associated costs and upcharges upfront. My experience too. Maybe that company (not your PB) has built great pools for others, I don't know as I never got past the lack of verifiable industry credentials issue. I have found my concerns verified later by other sources and have warned others too when I had the chance based on my experience. My search continued (continues) as I realized I needed to know more so that I could hopefully avoid the pitfalls that many have shared on this board. Particularly, in terms of contract terms and pricing, what's left off in the bids and what you find out is not included or you didn't think of ('cause ya just don't know this stuff), product comparisions . . . I can only say I wish people would share more. I appreciate everyone who takes the time to respond on this board and offers their advice professional or experience wise. I am sorry to see that sometimes things get a little confrontational here at times. I know I wish I would have phrased things differently more than once in my life. Anyway, if you check back in to read this . . . I did enjoy your pool photos and appreciated your willingness to share from your personal experience and perspective. Sometimes, I have chosen to share some specifics whether negative or positive feedback off-the board via a specifically designated e-mail (NJFolks@gmail.com). This has worked both ways in making myself or the other personal more comfortable in an exchange of either more detailed or personal information, arranging visits, etc. I have really appreciated the people who have tried to share with me and it always encourages me to offer help or information to others when I can. Boy, even being anonymous on the internet has its risks, but I hope it has had its rewards as well since there are many other people like myself just trying to struggle with the stress of such a major purchase. Maybe that's what accounts for the some of the tension at times. I'm still PB-less and pool-less, so enjoy yours! It did turn out beatiful and for that you should be thankful. We should all be so lucky and that just may be it. But we have to go by what we know at the time, so if you have had a bad experience with someone it is hard to ignore or not want to warn others. I could weigh in on both sides of this particular PB, but in the end you are "not your PB's keeper." Being a good neighbor, though and trying to look out for the other guy can be, well tying at times. I do understand your feelings, so thanks again for sharing. Hope this helps since those of us who have had a toughter go of things don't have a beautiful pool to cool-off in ;).

So sorry that I didn't see these more recent comments. I haven't been on GW lately. Thank you for all of your enthusiasm and lovely compliments : ) I'm only home on the weekends now, since my DD's ballet training is becoming more intense in NYC. I miss my kitchen most days!! I'll try and answer all of your questions. Elisa our DCS is a few years old. We bought it before we remodeled when our old range went kaput. I love it. The five burners are amazing. I can fit SO MUCH all at once. I'll post a photo to show you what I mean. Our oven is large and has a convection fan. When we were shopping ranges, the guy at the appliance store told me it's a reliable workhorse, which it has been so far. One of my favorite features is the ultra low burner setting. When you turn the knob all the way it goes to this ultra low setting. So without having to try and adjust the flame low, you just turn the knob all the way and it goes to this setting and the flame can't go out. Even if the flame did go out, it has the self re-ignite feature. MIssy the counter are Julia Soapstone from Texeira in N.J. I adore them. Kngwd I know whatcha mean! I can't believe my "baby" is 23. When we built the house he was still in my belly! KitchenDetective the greenhouse is my husband's project. It's 60 feet long by 20 something feet wide. The cover is two layers of plastic with pumped air in between. He grows stuff in there in the summer that likes heat. But then he also plants another crop of greens, carrots, beets, etc in the late summer. The idea is to get this second crop to be full grown by the time early winter sets in. When winter sets in the plants become dormant. They don't freeze in the greenhouse because he covers the rows with plastic and they keep warm in this way. The moisture also gets trapped under the plastic so the rows stay moist without being watered. Anyway, then all winter we can go out and lift the plastic and pick fresh veggies : ) View from inside the greenhouse

jterrilynn: yes, that looks like a good price to me. It looks similar to the all clad holiday promotion that efs referred to above (amazon has it for the same price). I think this is an excellent choice. The induction compatible thing opens a whole new can of worms... I went with induction when I remodeled and needed new pots and pans to work with it. I have a couple of cuisinart pans that are induction compatible, but I really had to be careful to make sure that they were magnetic. If I remember right, they were just switching over their tri-ply line to be induction compatible, so some were and some weren't (I think I was looking around this past May). Because of this, I didn't feel that I could order the cuisinart on-line - I had to buy local and bring a magnet. The cuisinart is cheaper than the LeCreuset tri-ply, but the quality difference is very noticeable. Like warmfridge, I really like the LeCreuset tri-ply. But all clad is the gold standard for most regular folk, so it a really nice gift. However, if you have a LeCreuset outlet near you it is worth checking out. They are having 25-35% off sale on pretty much the whole store through Nov 24th - linked below. Just a heads up that not all of the all clad is induction compatible. I was told at Williams Sonoma that the all clad copper core was induction compatible but would not work as well as the all clad SS (I think the copper core costs more, anyway). Lovely thought about adoption -- so many kids, not just babies, need loving supportive homes. I don't have any advice, just am trying to remember something that helped me a while back. When facing a situation with uncertain outcome, and you want it to go one way, but it might not go that way ... instead of hoping/praying for success instead of failure, hope/pray for success if it's meant to succeed and failure if it's meant to fail. I'm sure where ever I heard/read that, it was put more gracefully. Regardless, acknowledging that what I hoped for, might not happen, and I'd survive and get through it, helped me. Wishing them well, and confidence that they will be fine, whatever form their future relationship takes.

The container is more of a lilac purple.

oh, i remember Vanda Beauty councilor products. one of the best "skin care" companies of those early years. I give it lots of credit for my 75 year old much younger looking complexion. Tupperware bought them out ages ago, I heard and end of story. JAFRA, is one that followed. Hope someone remembers others for you.

No, it was definitely Lady something. Not sure if it is Femme, Finnal. The container has six sides, not eight. I found a blurry picture of it which I'll post.

I'm wondering if it was from Australia or somewhere else overseas.

It wasn't Fuller Brush was it? I see they had a cosmetics line in the 70's...

Doesn't ring a bell. I graduated high school in 1970. I definitely remember Avon and Fuller Brush. And Amway.

This is it - I'm sure they came packed with lipsticks, nail polishes, etc. My aunt used to sell it door to door and I'm curious to see if they're still in business under a different name. I think we pronounced it Lady Fa nal.

Also, does anyone remember TriChem(?). My cousin used to sell that too. I loved painting with those tubes of paint.

I don't remember the makeup..but I do remember the tube paints! My kids had all kinds of cool tee-shirts! lol

Lady F... oh gosh it's on the tip of my tounge and I can't read it!! The headquarters for the company was in Haverhill MA. You could see the building from Rte 495. I'll call a couple of friends later and see if they know.

I don't know the answer to the make up question...

Don't know how the paint thing got in to the discussion...but there was also Tri-Chem paints...I wasted a lot of money on those things...LOL

Pattico, I injected the paint talk (see my comment under the pic). Tri Chem was exactly what I was talking about, and you're right, they were very pricey. It wasn't the most exciting thing to do because it took so long to paint something, but the end results were beautiful. Wonder what happened to them too.

OMG, msmarion is right! It's Lady Finelle Cosmetics. The KT never ceases to amaze me. I searched using Haverhill.

Not sure if it's the same company still going strong, but a search shows other Lady Finelle makeup companies.

My mom used to sell and use Tri-chem too, even way back in the 60s. She used to make all my clothes and I had a pretty white blouse with puffy sleeves that she used tri-chem on. She painted a line of hearts and flowers down the front, near the buttons. She made a pretty lavender skirt-jumper thing to go with it. Wish I still had them both.
