should I buy scratch & dent appliances or floor models?
Comments (12)I bought a vinotemp unit directly from the factory with some scratches and a dent -- huge discount for very slight cosmetic damage that's not even on the front of the unit (which sits in our basement in any case). I was able to see a picture of the unit before buying and I was assured, in writing, that the full warranty applied. Would I do it again? Sure. Obviously it may be a bigger issue for you if the defects are conspicuous on a daily basis and you'll want to do your own checking on the warranty, with an assurance that there are no functional defects. How you evaluate the appearance or any uncertainties with a particular seller is something I cannot address, and there's always the question how big of a discount is on offer, but it's at least generally true that some very trivial (from a mechanical point of view) bumps or scrapes may cause a visual flaw that requires a discount (and, for that matter, also true that a unit with something seriously wrong with it may not have any such scrapes or dents). Sometimes, the discount is large and the problems end up being non-issues. YMMV....See Morewecork floors & denting - all cork floors dent?
Comments (3)I put in Forna engineered cork flooring 5 years ago in my kitchen. I chose the interlocking planks because I could not find anyone to install the tiles in the area where I live. Cancork supplied the planks I bought. It was sold as a possible DIY, but I had a remodeler do it anyway. The floors do dent, but it hasn't bothered me at all. It is a busy pattern and the dents are really not ugly. Of course, we have a more rustic style in our kitchen. The thing that bothers ma A LOT, and that I would be careful of is that the cork surface chips off and it's apparently not covered by warranty (although reading the warranty, you wouldn't know that--it's only when you ask that they "interpret" the warranty to exclude the chipping and flaking issue.) These are not gouges, they are chips. We used the very expensive Lobo polyurethane that they recommended and applied it exactly according to directions and it immediately peeled up and hasn't protected the floor like they said it would. Disappointed with Cancork and their product, but I still really love the cork. I like the way it looked, the way it felt--just think this is a poor example of the material....See MoreCabinet dings and dents?
Comments (23)Are you sure those were post install and not pre install? As in they came from the cabinet maker with them and the installers didn't cause them? Some of them appear to have been coated with factory paint. Or, I suppose the installers could have done that before they tried to fill the ding???? Either way, those are deep enough to be concerning. And any cabinet installer who can't make some of those disappear isn't very skilled at touchup, which would concern me about his other skills. I'd want the cabinet maker involved here, and if the installers skill level is as poor as it seems, I'd want a furniture medic type person to address the issues. Those can be field repaired to look just fine. And that should be your goal. You may have to get a specialist involved to get to that goal though. Or the original cabinet maker....See Morewhere to find scratch and dent appliances?
Comments (21)We bought a Whirlpool wall oven that had been returned. When it was installed and we turned it on, we realized why it had been returned: loud cooling fan! We returned it, hit this forum for advice, and sprung for a new Bosch. Wish they'd had a floor model we could have bought! Lots of my furniture is floor model. Just saying, scratch n dent etc is great, but research is good too. Hopefully the one you want is out there!...See Moregeomeg
