I like the paint color on the right....restrained gold.

Have you thought about adding a band of the red on the bottom of your current drapes? I am thinking Deborahnj has drapes like that in her dining room....hold on let me search. I couldn't find it. If the wall color works with the drapes, I think your fine.

Scooby - Yeah, DH is ok with an iron bed now! As much as I love four posters, they're just too big for our room.

The curtains I have now are the Argentina room darkening "Bronze" from BB&B. They weren't onsale (expensive for me anyhow) but I'm willing to part with them if need be. I think Bonniee has curtains like that too. I'll check then. I can't sew really but that could maybe a job for Nanny2a if she's available.

We'll have a mattress in another month or so. The bed will have to wait a little yet. I'm just trying to think ahead about all this.

I vote for mannered gold, i think the deeper tone will be cozy and elegant in a bedroom.

Scoobyruby, good memory. I do have red and gold drapes in the DR. Here are a couple of pics. My DR is SW Chamois which is a darker color on the same strip and is after RG and MG so it might give you an idea re depth and darkness for the other colors. Shee, now that you have narrowed it down to either RG or MG, I think you need to paint a swatch of each on the wall and live with it for a day or so to see how both colors react to the light changes in your room for both day and night. I think doing that will help you immediately decide on which color to go with. Having said that, I think either color will work!

I think you need to get a sample of Decatur Buff now and let us see that next to the other two colors :)

Man, I thought I could match up houses with people better than I'm proving here. Got Newhomebuilder's paint wrong and Bonniee's curtains I'm thinking of are checked.

Deborahnj - OOoo..they're so luscious looking! I'm assuming they were custom made? Silk? Whatever I end up with will have to be washing machine safe. Is Chamois the wall color in all those photos? The first couple it looks really, really light?

Msrose - Ha, I was all set to pick from these two until I read your comment. I may head to the paint store tomorrow. It looks like Decatur has more brown in it. Something's up with BM's site.

So far I'm gathering if I go with a gold paint color I should stick with some type of gold curtains even though I'm planning on adding white to the bed?

I think I will paint large sections and live with them for a few days, in differet lighting to see.

What color of gold is your hallway? I think you should keep that color in mind as you're going to see them pretty close together.

I think a lighter gold would look nice too - BM Pittsfield Buff is a lovely light gold color.

One last thought, I love that bed, and it looks great against the green paint of that room, but I'm thinking it might disappear in a gold colored room. A darker bronze or black iron bed would show up much nicer against a gold room and a red spread. Just a thought...:-)

Caroleoh - The hall isn't as dark as it's showing in these photos. Especially during the way when I have the bathroom blind up there's lots of light. It was rainy and ugly yesterday so I had the blind down. It's lighter than the Restrained Gold. I'll dig out some other lighter colors and check it out.

I'm not sure what finish we'll be picking for the bed but I agree if I don't go darker than that photo it will blend. We'll probably pick a darker bronze color.

Shee, the drapes are custom and silk and are 2 widths wide. There are some great faux silk fabrics that may work for you and the lining and inter-lining really helps with the fullness.

I hope I get this right because I'm doing this from memory at work,(Firewalls block out pics)the pics of my actual drapes were taken before we actually painted the DR so those pics are showing the builder's beige. The very last pic is a true rendition of the SW Chamois wall color. So Shee you are right, the first couple of pics are Builder's beige but the last is the SW Chamois.

My favorite SW gold is "Humble Gold." I've had it in my living room and foyer for years, but am getting ready to paint over it since I'm changing color schemes. I never really tired of the wall color, though. I have Restrained Gold in my bedroom and I'm sick of that one. :)

OK, here's one more color to toss into the mix. I think it would work beautifully with the red on your bed and I think it would also work with your current panels. SW Dromedary Camel.

I like the Decatur Buff. I'm starting to think about painting our master, but that's probably a couple years away. I definitely want a warm, rich gold, but nothing too overpowering. I'm so sick of the BM Taos Taupe we have now.

With bamboo shades I'd be inclined to stick with white for the curtains.

I'm going to get a sample of the Decatur today. Looking at the strip(s) last night I think that could be the one. I like yellow in other people's homes but for my own I prefer golds. Unless a larger sample looks bad when up I'll probably go with one of these. That's the goal anyhow. :)

I finally found this photos I was looking for. I really love the look of Megsy's room with the white drapes and shades. The nice thing is she mentioned they're Ikea. After checking it out, they're affordable and can go in the wash! Yay! :)

White isn't a color I'm usually ok with but I've been thinking of how I want this room to look and having some white in there could be a good thing. The white shouldn't get to too messed up since it's not the main area of the house.

Don't worry, I'll get the room painted first.

IKEA is weird about what they do and don't sell online. Seems kind of arbitrary, actually.

How far away is your closest Ikea?

I'll be there a lot over the next few months (working on a basement playroom project) and would be happy to pick some up for you and ship them to you if you get your heart set on them. A few years ago I picked up and mailed some closet brackets for someone here whose local IKEA was out of stock, so I even have experience in Ikea-shopping-for-gardenweb!

Though if you haven't been to IKEA in a while (or ever), you might want to make a field trip out of it and spend a day there. You'll get TONS of ideas and have a blast. They've got tons of beautiful duvet covers and throws and all kinds of stuff that they don't show on the website or in the catalog.

I'd recommend going on a weekday if you can swing it - much less crowded. Or if you have to go on a weekend, my secret tip is to go during some big sporting event for your area (I always go during Eagles games - it's deserted then, LOL!)

I did think about road tripping it one day but I just looked on mapquest and it's over a three hour drive. ..... For now, I'll focus on painting and the bed. :) I'll probably change my mind a bunch before I settle on curtains. I would hate to get down there and see others that "could work". I'm known to return things and that wouldn't be an option in this case, lol!

I really do think it's ridiculous that you can't buy certain things online. I was just at Kirkland's site the other night and was considering ordered wall sconces but NOOOo have to go to the store for them too. That would also be a trip and a half.

lkplatow - surprised I haven't bumped into you! I will probably be there this weekend picking up 2 more pairs for my office.

Shee - IKEA has a really nice set called Bomull that is a double layer (one layer is very sheer - the other is opaque) and they are a really pretty natural cream color. Not quite as stark as some of the other off-whites. I have a pair that I'm moving to my DR. Hope it works.

I would've never even looked at IKEA's curtains if it weren't for seeing yours and Megseys rooms! They're not very appealing on the site.

Blends with the current curtains. The Decatur takes on a green tone at night and reminds me slightly of BM Northampton Putty. - Which I like that color and have it in my laundry room but I'm not sure what I think of it here.

My eye immediately goes to the Restrained Gold in both pix.
The Decatur looks somewhat blah and the Mannered is to bright for my taste.

I tend to agree with Spice.

Restrainted Gold pushes my buttons. I like that the best and it's the one that my eyes are drawn to. Pretty color!!!

That's the one I keep coming back to also.

I'm really shocked at how the Mannered and Decatur look in this room since I love all the pictures I've ever seen of both colors. I know how paint looks on a monitor is only for ideas and isn't accurate, but this is a perfect example why it's a good idea to buy samples.
