Memorial Weekend Quilt Projects?

Any big quilting or sewing plans for the coming 3 day weekend? Or is everyone going to the beach?

I have decided that it's time (WAY beyond time!) to clean and organize the Play Room. Yuck, right? This room has exercise equipment, the quilting table, shelves and shelves of fabric and jewelry supplies, tubes and tubes of beads, the ironing board (along with a load of clean laundry to be ironed of course!), a huge basket of clothes to be altered since I lost weight, and DH's beer making supplies! Can you imagine all of that in a 12x11 room?!? Without organization it doesn't work at all and right now it's one stack of 'stuff' after another.

I cleaned my room last weekend including taking everything out of the closet and organizing it so I do not envy you at all LOL!!
I save all scraps and I was going to make a scrappy Irish Chain but Geraldine's pics in the gallery inspired me to take the 1&1/2 in squares and make a pinwheel. I am determined to get some of the scrap pile depleted this weekend. I have take out boxes full of scraps and all projects are on hold until I can go through and either use it or fill a pillow with it.
We have had rain all week and it is going to rain through the weekend so I think it is a great time to quilt.

Rosa I love your quilt, especially the squares with the stars. I cleaned my creativity room out last week as well. I'm not totally done but about 80% there! So I'm going to finish a dinosaur quilt (my assistants little boy) and a strip quilt I found in on one of my favorite BLOGS. All the pieces are cut, sorted and I'm ready to start sewing them together.

So I'm hoping to get in a couple of days of quilting in between a Memorial Day barbecue I'm invited to and special dishes I'm going to make for that. I also have a couple of Netflix movies to watch. But most of the holiday will be spent quilting!! Yippee!!

I hope everyone enjoys the weekend...summer is on the way!

So sorry about your knee, Teresa. Mine are in a state of rebellion, too. Just sore from garden work, though. Hope yours gets all better soon. Had burgers on the grill w/ King Arthur home-made buns, stir-fried green beans and strawberry Jello w/ bananas on Sunday. Yesterday, marinated grilled chicken, chili bean salad, garlic smashed potatoes & Home-made dinner rolls. I tried a new marinade recipe (mustard & balsamic vinegar) that turned out really good & the rolls were made from a recipe I got here on the Cooking Forum. I think it is Lindac's recipe. Anyway, they were delicious. DSII ate one chicken leg and 4 dinner rolls plus more during the night...there's only one roll left this morning (plus a pan of eight that I put in the freezer.) And, yes, it was too darned hot to be baking bread but had to fire up the oven for the smashed potatoes and had some sweet potatoes that needed to be baked. Good luck with your surgery, Annie. Mari - I'm surprised lumberyard doesn't have exterior beadboard - thought a lot of people would use it for porch ceilings? Where do you live? I could come help stain if your DH would help me with my projects later LOL! Would predrilling be easier than setting nails? Or you'd have to set anyway? marybeth and remodelfla - nice mosaics! danielle - your DH is SuperDaddy! I can't let me kids see pics or they'll want one (and I'd have to build it since my DH is a software guy, I'm the hardware person!). Happy Birthday to the boys! Well, doesn't count since it's the end of the week, but it was raining today so carpenter cousin got off early from landscaping job (he's looking for different part-time job so he can do more carpentry, or a FT carpentry job again since he got laid off in Jan). I had taped off the counters to caulk, started marking studs to get shoe mold up when he called so I finished marking studs, taped off the lower island countertop edges too, then had to pick up our kids at school. He came over and was caulking and putting up shoe when we got home, then put up trim on sides of island (even though I wasn't happy with my finish job and would have liked to have done a final sanding)while the kids played, and cut the 12ft length of crown sitting in my DR to length. Brought me the mitred returns for cabinets on each side of corner and the center bay stool(sill) cut to proper depth but not notched. I've got lots of sanding and staining to do! Actually, putting crown on the kitchen cabinets was a winter make-work job for him that he didn't get to in March, so I told him my next priority is finishing that bay window stool and all the FR/kitchen door and window casings, and getting the baseboard (finished) nailed up. Hopefully I'll get the fiberglas pulled out from around the windows and slider, and low-expanding foam put in, then the next rainy day (or next w/e?) he'll come over and join up some casings with biscuit joiner, and maybe fit the new stool (3 pieces) so I can stain and finish that. I'd love to get the FR windows and slider trim finished and up by 4th of July, and if I can get tile issues resolved I can get kitchen door casings and then the last bit of baseboard in FR (runs into kitchen) and the small pieces of kitchen baseboard in (they're all finished) by Labor Day. It would be nice to have all the trim in the house finished 2 years after moving in, but I don't know if we can do the foyer, LR, half bath, and mudroom by then as well, since I haven't stained any of it yet and I have to do doors and window sashes this summer while I can set up sawhorses in the garage - short pieces of baseboard can wait til fall/winter, I finish them in the Master Bath (which will be finished in oh, 5 years). But maybe I can stain/finish and he can put up the crown by Thanksgiving so I can get it off my DR floor?

Hi Barb, I have many antiques and the best thing to do is leave on the original stain and finish, unless the item is damaged. This wash stand and the antique chess table, that I posted a few months back, are the only pieces I restored. The chess table had severe water damage and cigarette burns. This wash stand was very dark and murky and it just didn't fit in with our other stuff. That's why I painted it. Then I decided to strip it (using a sander) and refinishing it to better match our bedroom. I can tell you how to refinish and restore furniture, however, I rather not give advise on antiques... I'll leave that to the professionals. I'd be happy to tell you how to finish other furniture though, as we build a lot of furniture and I do most of the finishing. I never use gel stains, because they are not penetrating and compromise the beauty of the wood. I rather sand a piece down to the raw wood and start over. Joann. Check out the antique forum on GW.

They are going to be induced tomorrow morning, so the donation of these 44 wonderful quilts will be made this weekend. Baby James' brother Aaron Thomas Robinson will be born tomorrow hopefully. I will keep you guys informed.

What cheerful, vibrant colors!

I was going to finish the quilt block roll I started yesterday. I went out shopping this morning for the fusible fleece and exactly the right color for the outer border with my pieced blocks in hand to ensure that I picked a drop dead combination. When I got home with the 5 fabrics I couldn't decide between to audition them all properly laid out I couldn't find my pieced blocks. Left them in the last quilt shop I stopped in. =o

So I'll be doing something else until they can mail it back to me.

I'm still working on the crib ensemble but it is so slow because I'm having so much trouble with my hands, especially the right. I made an appt. for next week to see a chiropractor regarding the carpal tunnel -- hope she can help -- if not I'm going to call a surgeon -- at the end of my rope with it. Have a great holiday weekend everyone.

aww gerizone - so sorry about your pain- I know Pain well! Just a suggestion - if you aren't already doing so - wear a brace on your wrist - esp when you sleep- to keep your hand/ wrist from bending. One night won't make it feel better - it will take awhile - but it might help ease the pain. Hope you feel pain free soon!

I'm working on finishing machine quilting a quilt for a friend's granddaughter who is graduating from H.S. I need to have the whole thing done by the end of the month which is coming up quick!

Rosa, love the way you used your blocks, the use of the yellow is perfect as it ties them all togeather.
I am hoping to sandwich at least one project and if I am really with it two.
Have to get some of these things under control before I can clean my room. I have too many irons in the fire at the moment. Jayne

While I love nothing more than a day in the studio quilting, tomorrow I will be watching my son graduate from the University of Texas at Austin. He graduates from the Plan II program (just 250 students accepted), Magna cum Laude, and Phi Beta Kappa.

I had a plan to finish a quilt this past week, but it didn't quite come together. Ah, well, next week will see it finished.

Great colors on the pinwheels, Rosa! Did you make a 5 1/2" square with the scraps and then a HST? I should pull that basket full of strips out from under the desk and see what's there.

I hope to be able to finish up the pink D9P this week-end along with some odds and ends on my list. DD and her family are out of town camping in Daytona this week-end, so we probably won't be doing anything special. Good time to sew!

Sharon I can not bear to throw away scraps so I had been using 3x1.5 and 1.5x1.5 as leaders and stoppers so when I clean my cluttered room I decided I had to do something with them NOW!!!!
I did sew them 5.5x5.5 and made HST with plenty of starch.
I am going to practice FMQ on this one so I plan a QAYG.

I'd like to be sewing but I just have to get out in the yard at some point this weekend, hopefully tomorrow.
Lots of fabric sales around here.
Got some pretty stuff on friday 35% off & went to use my JoAnns coupon today but everything was already on sale. so I picked up a magazine, go to the checkout & was told it was already on sale. So she rung it up & it seemed strange so I asked how much off it was.....10% !!!! I should have made her do a return, but I didn't want to be cranky! Live & learn!
It's so nice here that I might do some sun paintinng to morrow. I bought some lovely soft white Pima at one of the sales.

I plan on refolding ALL my fabric (an armoire full) using the 6 x 24 inch ruler method. I'm almost finished all the blue fabric.

Gerizone - I had carpel tunnel surgery on both hands - a month apart. I wish I had had it done years earlier. It was a 15 minute procedure, under local anethesia and I went back to work the next day. I have not had any numbness since. I did the brace thing, but being on the computer most of the day, it didn't help much.

Mary C - I'm in Austin also. Congrats to your son. I know you're proud of him.

I wish I could go to the beach--especially since I live so close now--but I'll probably be either working with my husband or working on a Log Cabin wedding quilt for a nephew. Maybe both!

I made a lot of progress on the double wedding ring quilt that I have been working on for months. It has 72 blocks and I have 48 of them together and the rest are sewn into rows. Now to join the rows together! I am so happy to be this close to the end.

There was a weekend? LOL! I had to work the whole time. I am a real estate agent and had clients come in from out of state to house shop. But, I did make a new quilty friend as one of my clients is a passionate quilter and seamstress! I helped her pick out the perfect house and a sewing room was a big deal for her. That is the best part of my job :).

I only accomplished one of my projects but feel good about it. I finished my Black and White challenge!!
Congratulations to your son Mary,a lot to be proud of.
Geri, I hope you are feeling better but why are you putting off having your CT taken care of? As a former OR nurse I know it is well worth the effort and usually not that complicated. Jayne
