Wood range hood vs stainless steel hood restrictions - need help
Comments (8)Hi, I may be able to answer the wood hood question since we went through the same thing recently. It sounds like he's suggesting a wider hood than range width, which is recommended/common although from what I've learned on this site the same width as the range can also work depending on the blower and how the range is used. If you do decide to stick to a 30" wide hood, have you checked the specific dimensions of the hood insert you are wanting to use? They should be slightly smaller than the actual hood width to allow for them to go up inside of the wood hood. While we are going with a 6inch wider hood than our rangetop, we're going to be using a bluestar rangetop and plan on lots of wok cooking. We did have to go back to our cabinetmaker requesting the wider hood and did have to give up some upper cabinet space to achieve what we wanted. Depending on how your parents use their stove, a 30inch hood could work. I'm not sure about the space needed for a stainless hood- I've seen them both butted right up against cabinets and with space in between. Hopefully someone with more expertise will pipe in on that-...See MoreVent-A-Hood color vs stainless steel liner
Comments (5)I ended up with a white powder coated Ventahood. It is not a liner but a full hood. I wanted a white hood and had hoped for the option to have the underside stainless but they don't have that option any longer. The white is doing fine. The warming light assembly is stainless. My hood is not in an area where people would see the underside of it. If it ever gets really nasty we will just refinish it. If I were doing just a liner I would stick with stainless unless the underside of the hood would be in an area that was so visible it might clash with it's surroundings. But if you have other stainless elements in your kitchen pick the stainless for it's durability. The stainless liners are all stainless. The colored liners are painted steel. Thus the price difference. Nothing to wear out on the stainless....See Morestainless steel vs glass vs ??? easy to clean backsplash
Comments (1)oh boy, my sympathies for your problem. I hope u exhausted every avenue with your contractor to correct your counter problem. i don't understand how they can say they are fine when the finishes are different? that alone is cause for a re-do!! now onto your problem as is: first i would not do a SS backsplash. way too much SS. next, glass-while nice i don't think it goes with your cab style since glass lean to the modern. i still think you can do tile but it must be very uniform. but if that off the table, then i would pick one color that is the same in the counters and use that for the b/s. u can use quartz or corian. corian has lots of solid colors and is very easy to clean. best case scenario, find sea pearl to match your counters and use that for the b/s....See MoreUsing a black stainless range hood with stainless steel appliances
Comments (12)Thank you for all your opinions. @Patricia. As it turns out, we are doing a Bosch dishwasher and a samsung microwave, but the refrigerator, range and hood are GE Profile. After much scouring of the internet I actually found the exact application I was looking to do with the GE range I'm looking at with a hood from a different brand. What do those of you with the trained design eye think?...See Morehollylh
