gouge, chips, gap in silestone countertop installation
Comments (7)Hi everyone - I mistakenly thought my post didn't go through as I didn't see it after submitting, so I never followed up (till I checked now on a whim). Thanks for your responses! I sent the photos to my builder, and the silestone installers came back and filled the gouge with something dark, and polished the scratches along the edge. It looks acceptable enough, and our backsplash will cover the yucky back edge (including that 1/4" gap, in theory). Although now we have a mysterious hard plasticky blob that appeared in the last week. Assuming that can be removed, the countertop is OK. Good to know that the back edge is sometimes crappy and anticipated to be covered....See Moreleaking undermount sink (silestone countertop)
Comments (20)Well, I stand corrected on the mold issue. I just did some quick research and found the article below. Based on that info, I'd inform the installation company to bring new pieces of wood for the install. For the mold on the inside of the cabinet you'll need to find something to kill the mold. Earlier you said "I called HD; They said it is not my responsibility to get a plumber, and they would talk to the installer." If the leak wasn't caused by anything the plumber did, and it does look like it's due to little or no caulk around your sink, then I'd hold them responsible for paying the plumber. Besides that, hiring the plumber again was also due to the fact that they scratched your countertop! Did they say anything after the initial installation about the need for someone to caulk around the sink, or did they say they caulked it? It appear the reason they're not using the clips is because there nothing to clip too. There's no overhanging plywood on the front and sides of the cutout to attach the clips to. That looks like a huge cutout, but I've also made similar cutouts in cabinets that were a little small for the sink we wanted to use. BTW, my kitchen sink doesn't have clips either. It's held up by plywood and 1x4's on three sides and a narrower strip on the back edge to allow for the faucet. Before they show up for the install, make sure the cabinets are to your liking and confirm that they'll bring the new wood. Comments (4)very clever! Do you think that the sink setter would have worked in this case? I am not affiliated. Here is a link that might be useful: sink setter link...See MoreCaesarstone vs Silestone vs Cambria vs Zodiaq quartz countertop?
Comments (43)We have polished Organic White countertops. We also get subtle metal marks that won't come out. These counters are just a few months old. No one else would notice it, but I certainly do. I would recommend getting a sample of the quartz you are considering and testing it yourself. Maybe we're just unlucky? Although, the number of websites that say "quartz doesn't stain" seem to be equalled by the number of websites that say "here's how to get stains out of your quartz". We haven't tried Magic Eraser and it is somewhat discouraged since it is abrasive, but we may try that next....See MoreHU-641669591
