Well, I've moved to my new house!

We're in Stratford now. The main floor is more or less set up, but we haven't done downstairs yet. I started working on the gardens yesterday. It's been nicely landscaped but the original owner planted a lot of invasives. So everything is out of control and all I can do is take one little patch at a time and clean it out.

We've been here nearly a week, and we still don't have any appliances. We lost everything in the fridge and freezer. DH went out and bought a bbq with a side burner and we borrowed a big cooler from our DD, so we are getting by. But the appliances were first, supposed to be delivered the week before we moved in, then the day we moved in. Now it's not scheduled till June 2nd. Ask us how angry we are! These things were ordered and paid for several weeks ago!

We were invited to our DD's for Sunday dinner, so I took our laundry there. Thank Gawd for her.

We've already babysat the GK's twice. At least we have running water and the bbq. Oh well, the trials and tribulations of moving to a new town. Other than those little inconveniences, we're loving it. The neighbours have been very nice and we spend a lot of time out on the front porch enjoying the lovely fragrance wafting from our lilac tree.

Moving is a lot of work, I don't envy you. :-) It sounds like you'll be happy in the new place... once you get those appliances! Don't think I'd be buying from that store anymore.

Post some pictures when you get all settled in??

I know you've been looking forward to your move and it sounds like (except for the appliances) you're doing really well. You are sooooo lucky to have your grandchildren close so they can visit. Enjoy!!

I wasn't criticizing anyone - merely wondering why so many posters seem not to be inclined to perform extremely simple search functions before asking basic questions. Or for that matter, even review the FAQ's of the various forums when available. An Internet search with your favorite search engine will turn up basic information - like hardiness zones - without having to go through the multiple steps and delay of posting here and waiting for a response. If I am able to do a simple Internet search and easily turn up the data, anyone can. Information that is researched independently tends to be more meaningful than that which is handed to one on a platter and often leads to further study and greater knowledge. Besides, I did take the time to research myself and share the information, so I'm not sure what your complaint is. Here is a link that might be useful: European hardiness zones

twobit, don't worry, you did nothing wrong. You have to remember, that poor plant had been taken from a very controlled greenhouse, shipped in a dark truck, stuck in a too dark too dry store, and then to your house. The poor thing is just in shock. It's had a radical change in its environment, and dropping the flowers is a survival mechanism. Remember also, plants flower for two reasons; either they're happy, or they're stressed and trying to reproduce before they die. It's generally pretty easy to tell the difference. So, check out the FAQ on the main forum page, because you *will* want to transplant it out of that peat. Give it a couple of months after that and it'll probably start blooming for you. Also, check the link below; Rachel has lots of useful cultural info, with pictures! Good luck and keep asking questions. Hi Jodie! That's great news that you get to see your WS plants come up and bloom next year! Keeping the house spotless...well, like christie pointed out, now you can take a break from it and focus on winter sowing! I was still planting out in October and I didn't WS anywhere near as many containers as you did. I just waited while some of my sprouts got some size to them and while I prepped (read enlarged) a bed to plant them in. Holler if you need seeds--I still have a few I haven't traded away yet.

Marina, are you planning on carrying each plant to your new home? How large are you plants? How do you plan on transporting them? They sell sleeves for plants which would be perfect, but they're pretty expensive. I'd say if you transport quickly there shouldn't be any problems..Plants like Poinsettia are sensitive to the cold, but again, if you can carry each plant to the new house it shouldn't be a problem. I have carried tropicals from my house to the gh which is about 40-50 feet distacne, w/o problems. 10F degrees is pretty cold though so you'll have to move fast..Good luck, Toni

Appliances not scheduled now until June 2? I would be just livid! Once you get the appliances, I hope you get settled in and really enjoy your home. The neighborhood sounds very nice.

You sound so excited about your new home. I guess that makes it possible to get along w/o those appliances. It is fun setting up a new household.

I know what you mean about having a front porch. We have one, even though it is very small, it is on the shady side of the house and we really enjoy it.
Glad it is all going pretty well for you.

Too bad that you lost so much food because there ae no appliances yet.

I hope thaqt you enjoy your new home and have many happy times there.
