what do you think of this chair?

It is beautifully made. It needs cushions made for it. I know it is quite old but no specific date. The heavy metal rod for adjusting the back is the original one. The whole thing is so beautiful. What would a Morris chair like this be worth ? I don't know anything about it am trying to get info. Thanks for any help...c

I do not know how much the chair is worthn but I do know that this is a great looking chair. What fabric would you use for the back and seat cushions?

Its beautiful. Does it have any markings?

Its Arts and Crafts influenced but the shaped arms and the turned rails are transitional. *Some* A&C furniture makers, including Stickley, started at the end of A&C heyday, introducing Colonial Revival elements to pieces they were already "set up" to make. (and Stickley moved on to produce only colonial revival furniture for many years).

Some of the pieces were Frankensteins. Your example is quite successful.

LOL, isn't that the truth! I am kind-of over it, though. I first saw the listing right after church and got excited, posted here, and didn't get any responses until checking now. I don't know, maybe I'm just tired. I'll contact the seller and see what I can find out about condition, etc.. The seat looks cane and I wonder if it could be used without cushion, although it would be more decorative rather than used. I could probably find a ready made cushion that would do. The main thing is condition and price. Perhaps I should offer $50 if it is in great shape. Not interested if it is not. I'll report back.

I like it. All the ideas above -- even a closet chair for dressing and putting on shoes if you have the space in a walk-in or beside your closet. Would be really cute in a girl's bedroom, possibly a boy's, a guest room -- anywhere you might want to pull an extra chair up to a table. Would definitely change the fabric for my house, but that looks like it would be easy to do.

I'd pay a fortune for number one. It's amazing. I also like two. I have a few of those style and they are comfortable at a desk if the springs are still tight but for sitting in for longer periods of time the wing is such a better choice. Yes those buttons on four freak me out too lol. Ekg heh heh. Perfect

You know, you might want to consider a Saarinen tulip table (a version of the design, as the real ones are very spendy) to go with those marvelous chairs. The simple base and a pretty wooden top would look great with them, and you wouldn't have to contend with an apron or the feet on a more conventional pedestal. I can't help you with the identification but wanted to add that a friend had the identical chair. It is my most favorite chair to sit in because of the comfort. Lucky you.

Agree w/palimpsest: A&C influenced, but the spindled rails make me think of neoClassical -- could work with many different kinds of decor, from traditional to modern, esp depending on how you refinish or paint the wood, the cushions you get for it, etc.

ogoopogo....you obviously don't know about ME and PURPLE !! LOL> I will posted a pic of the patio set I did in purple...stunning if I do say so myself. Now you have done it !

walkin: Thank you I posted more pics....it is mine !! I think I will just clean the wood with RAF and wax/feed it for now. Leather I think for cushions.

Ooooooo -- dark purple plum leather with studs ..... lovely yummy color .....

Perhaps this fabric would make a yummy cushion? or cover the top of an ottoman?

teacats: beautiful fabric ! You are giving me lots of ideas. Thank you. I took the chair and posted more pics on the other thread. They are getting leather samples together for me to look at . I will keep you posted.
