Capiz flower pendant over island: what other lights would blend?

Hi All,

We bought the Capiz Flower Pendant from Pottery Barn, and we plan to put it above our large kitchen island. I also need to find fixtures for above the kitchen sink (a small pendant) and for above our rectangular kitchen table that is in the same space. I am feeling in over my head, and we are on a time crunch. Any thoughts about what sorts of fixtures coordinate with a capiz flower pendant?

Other info...Our cabinets are European Beech in a Shaker style with crown moulding to the ceiling, and we have a silvery Silestone countertop. The appliances are stainless, and our backsplash is 1 X 3 subway tile in sort of "beachy" colors: two aquas, two soft greens, a pale gray and an almost-white gray. The room has plenty of recessed lighting already aside from the eating area. Finally, the kitchen area is also open to a family room, which includes a Modern Fan in white.

I am eager for some ideas. Thank you! :-)

I think I would just keep it simple but try to match one of the elements of the capiz light. So either match the color, or the frostedness, or the general shape of each frond or find something that co-ordinates without commanding attention so the capiz light will be the star!

I think you are referring to monorail lighting. It definitely has a more modern vibe and is not for everyone. The reason I think what you have now does not work well is that the shades are very small/narrow and you probably have lower watt bulbs in them. It looks like you have recessed lighting as well. Is that not working for you as far as lighting the sink/prep side? I can't quite tell, but the spacing may be too far apart for the size--plus it looks like you have tall ceilings and all this has an impact. Do they cast a shadow when someone is working on the prep side? What I'd do is make a scaled drawing of your kitchen with the light fixtures and wattages and take it to a good quality lighting store that helps with lighting design and see what they recommended since you already spent money on one solution that is not working. When we remodeled our kitchen the place I ordered my lighting from did our lighting design. In many cases, their recommendations differed than my electrician's and most cases I went with their recommendations and am very happy that I did. Many fixtures will have a chain adapter kit. I think it might look weird to have super long rods, especially if one may be longer than the other. I would talk to your electrician and see what he recommends.

I love your countertop slabs, they are stunning. Based on all the criticism I looked at your layout and I see a lot of positives. You have a sink for cleanup near the dishwasher drawers and stove, and a second sink for prep work. That sink is not far from the fridge, so you can grab an armload of produce and get right to work ... and as you work the kids who just want a drink or snack from the fridge can get it without coming into the work L. This isn't a studio apartment, it is meant to work for a large family and so yeah, you may need to take 2-3 more steps to get around but that is somewhat unavoidable. For lights ... maybe something like this if you want something bold that isn't adding a lot of color: Huddardton Forge Erlenmeyer Flask Pendant Just a thought. Congrats on the new house. Don't worry about the people here who enjoy shooting arrows of doubt and dismay without offering to help identify ways to improve things. Some people naturally look for flaws and love to point them out (instead of asking why something was designed this way vs that way). It can't be a fun way to live life.

The Capiz pendent is nice looking but I'm wondering if it will give ou enough light above a large island. The specs say it takes a only a 60 watt type A bulb. That is not very bright and I think the shells will filter the light a lot making it even less bright. If you have lots of other light sources this may be a non issue for you. Just thought I'd mention it.

how about this pendant from landmark? i have been eyeing this one myself. it is also made out of shells, and looks like it has similar color to the capiz. it comes in different shapes and sizes.

Thank you so much for the great input! As for the amount of lighting, my husband actually went a bit overboard on recessed lights. :-) SO, the pendant is more for show than for light. Even though it looks yellow-ish in the photo, it is actually white glass with a polished nickel finish. I love the suggestions and think the LBL pendant would be an especially good fit for above our sink. Any ideas for above the kitchen table? Finding a large-ish fixture (15-20 inches) to go with another large fixture (the capiz flower pendant) seems like a big challenge. I will see if I can figure out how to post photos.
