Progress Pictures of our Build
Comments (8)Hello always_learning, Here are some answers to your question: 1) The total livable space on the main floor is just shy of 2100 sq. ft. 2) Funny you should say Illinois as that is where we are. We are in a small city southwest of Chicago. Do you know where LaSalle-Peru is? 3) We are not finishing the basement right away but wanted to make sure we got the bathroom roughed in now as it would be a huge expense to do that later. Our son really wants to make his own bedroom down there so I image we will be working on that within the first year. 4) The foundation guy uses forms that have the brick imprints on them. He says he has used them for over 20 years. He is the only one in our area that we know of that does them. We didn't get a choice up front but we were very happy with them once we seen them. I will keep the pictures update as we progress in the build. We stopped by today and there wasn't much happening except the roofing guys were working on the roof and they were commenting on all of the peeks and valleys....See MoreIt's October- How is your build progressing?
Comments (102)Joyce, I will see what I can do. All of our prints are too large for my scanner but I will check to see if maybe we have something that we drew that would fit. If not, I can scribble the approx. floor plan for you when I get a minute. :) eventhecatisaboy, thanks for the msg! I have been totally swamped but will get back to you soon. fish, windows are looking good! buildinginva, LOVE that shower! Very similar to what I have in mind for my master shower. Gorgeous home. Comments (52)We've had a lot of very cold weather. Even though we haven't really gone swimming yet, we are getting some great use out of the hot tub! Can't wait for Spring so we can finish landscaping and furnishing the patio. Looking forward to my first dive! :-)...See MoreProgress on our new build
Comments (41)Oh, I am confusing you. If the pine boards of the kitchen ceiling are new and NOT painted, then yes I suggest a shellac based primer (not shellac alone) be put on BEFORE you put on your finish coat. The shellac based primer will help prevent the knot holes from bleeding through. If new boards - sand, prime, sand again, then paint with finish coat. If the pine boards are already painted, then I see no need for the shellac based primer. Re: caulking between T&G boards. I'm not so sure that is a good idea. The boards will shift and separate according to the season and temps. If you caulk, they may buckle? have no where to go or caulk will crack. I've read that painting the boards or just painting the edges before install will help the appearance. Not sure if this is relevant to the OP, esp. if the ceiling has already been put up....See Morenatural_one
