Has anyone used Jerusalem tile (limestone) on their backsplash?

I'm still shopping for backsplash tile to go with my Ubatuba counters and Cherry Pecan cabinets. I like the Jerusalem gold 4x4 tile but am not sure if it's too plain. I think different manufacturers market this tile, but I'm not certain. And what is there to know about limestone?

If you've used it, I'd love to see your pictures. Thanks.

Sharb used a small tile version of it. You can see her kitchen in the Finished Kitchens Blog. She hasn't posted here in a long time.

Hi. We installed out kitchen in 2012. We still haven't chosen or decided on a backslpash - it's the painted wall. I have a creamy Egyptian marble, - don't remember the name. I like unstructured European vintage-y kitchens. Many of them don't have backsplashes either. My stainless range has a stainless backsplash directly behind it. I had picked out some mini-clear glass subway tile for the backsplash that coincidentally matches my Prescott Green paint color perfectly but what if I decide to change wall color one day? Just this week I started thinking maybe I made my backsplash tile decision three years ago which was to have none. Our marble installers tried very hard to discourage us from marble in the kitchen but I have not regretted it. All those kitchens in southern Europe can't be wrong. FYI - If you are considering glass backsplash look at a product call 3-Form it comes in an amazing variety of colors,textures and imbedded items, two good friends used it in their kitchens. http://www.3-form.com/ Do what speaks to you in your home. Hi. I was hoping someone would have shared some limestone backsplashes by now because all I have is a limestone bathroom (limestone cave). It's A LOT of limestone. It's my daughter's bathroom but the tile installer designed/pressured me into it when I was having a I-can't-pick-tile meltdown.... It's in tumbled limestone in the lighter/creamy shade: The lighting is terrible in every shot I have.....it's making the grout look gray but it's actually alabaster in person. Hope this helps!

Thanks for posting the picture. I love the color of the tiles but after talking with DH I think I'll pass on the 4 x 4's. I'm thinking more of a 3 x 6 or longer. Thanks. Hope you can find someone to use them.

I've used them many times before. Matter of fact, the Metro quarries I've used for commercial kitchen floors. They're all good tiles, and will definitely take anything you have to throw at them. As for grout, a normal conventional portland cement based grout will do fine.

Homeagain: It looks great. I am thinking of 4x4s rather than subway. I was able to look through your album (there as a thread on album privacy the other day that you might want to check out) and your home is gorgeous! May I ask where you purchased your coffee table? I've been looking for one just like that!

As for the tile - did you enhance it or just seal it?

Thanks for the info. I actually haven't been to my photobucket sight in years (?) but knew I had some old kitchen photos from when we first moved in.

The coffee table is from the Bob Timberlake collection.

I believe we did enhance the tile.

I used Jerusalem Gold 4 x 4 with Uba Tuba counters. I will post a shot later today. But you might want to check out Art Teacher NJ on the Finished Kitchen blog - which was one of my inspiration kitchens. I think I'm going on 3 years - and I still love the backsplash!

ArtTeacherNJ's finished kitchen is gorgeous! It says she used 4"x4" tumbled Dore Royal marble though. Are you pointing it out because it's a similar look?

Also, did you enhance your tile? I was told at my local tile store that this brings out the color.

I have Jerusalem Gold 4 x 4s done in September 2006. I love my kitchen but i've been thinking the wide grout lines and 4x4s make it a little dated. The designer and the tile guy worked out the grout lines. Maybe because mine is tumbled they needed to be this wide. It's mixed with Red Limestone 2x2s and bronze glass tile 1x1s.
I didn't seal it or enhance it since I liked it the way it is.

Beautiful kitchen, SueB. I love the way the backsplash complements the granite.

Just looked at the box of leftover tile - and it's called Desert Sand Diamond Mosaic. The tile looks mostly gray when it's not enhanced, when enhanced, it brings out the greens/golds in the slate. The jerusalem gold is enhanced as well.

Mom has Uba Tuba and used Durango tumbled marble. Looks similar with a little less gold.
