Is it bad to have a toilet share a wall with the bedroom
Comments (15)I agree with those who recommend moving it. Our Master bath shares a wall with our guest room/office and things are audible to say the least! I am looking forward to the day that this is better! I like the 3rd plan from Karenseb the best tho I still wonder about having your clothes so far away from your exit door. I also wonder about moisture and humidity issues with this arrangement. Some days you make multiple trips because of not liking a scarf or forgetting a jacket, etc. and having this extra distance to walk to do those things adds lots of time to your morning. Have you considered having your closet be in the area immediately behind your bedroom wall and putting all of the bathroom into the alcove space keeping the toilet easily accessible? Using Karen's 3rd plan, I would recommend flipping the location of the toilet so it is back to back with your sinks and thus your plumbing costs aren't too outrageous. I also believe that orienting it that way will be easier use ergonomically. (Try walking into a your current bathroom and closing the door, turning around to uh situate yourself and more to see how easy it is to do things versus feeling like you are going against the flow. ;)) It also will mean the toilet won't be so visible when you turn the corner into your closet but is still close enough for "worship time". Doing the walk thru of feeling what is comfortable versus awkward I think will be helpful to you as you sort thru your possibilities. YMMV...See MoreGlass/Crystal Interior Door Knobs + Young Kids = Bad Idea?
Comments (13)I'm not sure about newfangled glass doorknobs, but I grew up in a NYC prewar apartment with the original glass doorknobs from the 1920s, and the doorknobs survived my siblings and vice versa. After my parents died, some 85 years after the doorknobs were originally installed, I was nostalgic enough about the knobs that I removed a few to keep as souvenirs. Still in fine shape and working well, and if one was ever used as a weapon, I'd fear for the victim rather than the knob....See MoreTwo bedrooms upstairs have stinky bad smell
Comments (21)Check above the rooms (under the roof) for dead animals in the attic. Squirrels and mice are common invaders. If you have a chimney on an outside end-wall of the house and the chimney goes though the peak of the roof, that may be an entry point. Builders may frame the house and roof before the chimney is built (full brick chimney). After the chimney is built, there may be a gap where the eave box meets the chimney and the top side is bridged by roofing shingles, but underneath, the eave box does not meet the chimney. This is were squirrels entered my house. They got inside the eave box, moved down to the soffet (where the rain gutters are) and now had a lateral run the length of the house. They could enter the attic anywhere they pleased....See MoreTiny bedroom with sliding glass door…
Comments (8)Can you do a quick drawing on graph paper to scale where one square equals a square foot that indicates where those windows are (or drawing on plain paper that shows the inches between the door and all other openings in the room)? You'll get more/better advise if you provide more information. What size bed are you working with? How far away is your lot line from the sliders? You could eventually put a small deck out there. If you don't do that you should have steps down or put a railing up so it's not a safety issue. If this house were built today that would be a requirement....See Moreemagineer
