wow, another reason to cancel my facebook account!

Well, I just found out my house was built three years after I mnoved into it! Kind of scary that this is out there, even with all the misinformation.

Why would you put your name on a site you don't know anything about????

Here is a link that might be useful: Spokeo - About

I removed my listing. It was mostly wrong anyway. Never saw the photos before in my life. Don't know my relatives either. Lol

The problem is all the cross referenced listings. Apparently I am quite the transient. My name pops up in several listings. I live by myself, with DH my DS and my DD at several addresses. LOL

I'm going to tell them to remove their names also. That should help somewhat. most of this stuff is public info anyway but I don't like it in one place with all the errors.

Gee my son was actually born a decade before I had him, lives in my DD's house, has children and is a Pisces. His source of income is unknown but apparently he is quite wealthy with numerous investments. LOL I don't know my own kid.

I too, found that site full of inaccuracies. DH and I live in a Million$ house that was built in '86. Well, we moved INTO this house in 73, it was built in the 20's and we'll be lucky to get $200,000 for it (we've already had it evaluated for sale). Still, I removed both of us the other day.

Interesting and I thank you for posting.

My name did NOT come up. My husbands name did. The information was from the county tax accessors site. That is public information and CAN NOT BE REMOVED.

Some info on the site

Here is a link that might be useful: snopes.com: Spokeo

And it has my cell phone number, a number that only my kids have??????????

Yeah, be careful about removing your name... refer to Snopes...some people think the removal is actually a ploy to collect your email address...

Anybody looking for you for any reason can easily find you through public records. To be private you cannot own a home or drive a car or get a parking ticket! That's all public info. You'd have to close your accounts at FB, Gardenweb, yahoo, and any other site you visit and sign in.

I liked Snopes saying it's like playing Whack-a-mole!

By the way, I'm a multi-millionaire living in a house worth more than a million in a lower class neighborhood, but the man living here with me is not my husband! I guess don't know who the hell he is, but I sure do like him!

Sherry

I'm there....age is wrong, and almost everything else is wrong, too.

Yes, I'm there but so many things are wrong it's laughable. It says my FIL, who died at aged 71 in 1983, lives with us and he is in his 40s. Only a few things right, 75% wrong.

I am on there twice. They have me in CA at an address where I lived in 1995 and then they have me in Iowa. Most of the info is incorrect. My Iowa listing says I don't have central heat in my house. What a laugh.

Ok I actually thought of this before I clicked the 'remove' listing. Once you click that they now have your email address.

So that's when I checked with snopes. If you do click to remove your listing check back after a few days and see if it's really removed. Snopes thinks it might be a way to collect email addresses.

A friend posted this on Facebook. Looked at mine and they have me living here, married to a husband who isn't mine, and 2 or 3 other adult women. Bunch of wrong info so I'm not worried about it.

We are on there, live in a million + house with no central heat or air in a below adverage neighborhood. Also states our daughter 39 lives with us. She has been gone since 1988. The good thing is they list our in town office as our home address. I assume because we get our mail delivered there. There are only 3 or 4 million dollar properties in this county, not because of the houses but the land.

I wouldn't click on the Privacy link to remove my information because I don't want to give them my email address in addition to the info they already have on me.

But most of the info they have for me is incorrect anyway.

Not on there anymore. I removed our listing months ago. It disappeared within minutes and I haven't had any problems with spam emails (aside from normal) either.

Thanks for that. My information was just enough to make it difficult to reach me, but too close for comfort. I checked my kids too. My daughter's was spot on. Very scary. They had my nephew married to his sister. LoL But I removed that as well.

Any name I put in came up with two squares with nothing in them

There are HUNDREDS of "me" on there. Even I don't have the patience to go through the search.

Nope, I am not there.....so I wonder do I exist?
I prefer to stay in my own shadow anyway.

Trin

I don't exist either, Trin. Harry does and so does everyone else in the family I looked for--most of the information was wrong, though.

It's all public record, and most of it is inaccurate. It's not even worth the trouble to try to make it private - that would just give them one of my email addresses.

There are 2382 people with my name, and almost 250 of those in calif. Most of the stuff there is wrong. They said i live with dh and dd roxanne, and roxanne is 70,and i'm in my early 70's.WTH,how'd that happen??LOL.We also live in a million dollar home with no central heat, yeah right and no ac.Right on the ac as we always have an ocean breeze and don't need it.There was more wrong than right, like i like sports~~~~~~~~~~~~i don't think so,other than baseball.Oh roxanne is really my GD and does not live here!!!!
Kathi

I'm on there with a really old address. They had my zodiac sign correct though. hmmm.....

Yeah, I'm a millionaire and only one kid lived at home. Life is good. LOL

Jodi-

Can some of you rich people give me some money? It says that my family of 5 or 6 live on 42K a year. It also says that Dh and I are related to Joyce. Dh and I have never met Joyce, but her mail has been following us around for the last seven years.

The only correct piece of information they have on me was my name!

Trish

What absolute caca. Unfortunately some of it is correct and I don't like all that info in one place. (I wish I WERE a millionaire...) I'm NOT giving them my email address, either. This really annoys me.

Do you have to join in order to get a result? I get nothing

I don't think I'd like to see my info all in one place out there. But some of your comments above had me in stitches.

I'd rather take a chance and type my name in than have personal info (eg Face Book postings) all out there for the world to see. And now would be a good time to do as someone in one of the links above suggested, change your security settings within your FB profile so that these third party companies can't harvest your details.

What's even more frightening is that Google has a tool that will allow someone to look up your house and potentially see what colour curtains you have hanging in your living room. Someone showed me the version for England, and I'm thinking that they may have the same for the US. It's called Google Maps and you can see clearly your house, yard, street, etc. Not sure if you can request them to delete your address.

Some don't mind but if you do, it's better to know now.

I, too, wonder how all of you are getting that information. All I get is the name, city and street name for the address without paying an additional fee.

Problem is anybody could do what this site is doing... they are just compiling info on your from other sites... if you knew where and how to look, you could find it too. And, they and other sites will continue to compile info on you. You haven't just deleted the info on yourself from the web, you've just deleted this one collection of them (for a while). it's a scam to get more, correct info on you...

And, just because you're deleted for a while doesn't mean your info isn't still out there or they aren't retaining it... think about it, why would a site that is collecting and compiling data so easily remove you-- they don't legally have to.. Are they just really nice people? Really?

They are collecting your emails - and may even be selling them to other sites...no, probably not spammers right away... but the sites that charge people to find out additional info on you... And, once they have your emails, they may even be able to find out even more personal info about you and confirm things or not.....just be careful...don't ever enter any additional personal info about yourself onto an site that is collecting and sharing personal info... If you must, use a yahoo email account you set up for stuff like this instead of your personal account... Think about it....

I'm not there but DD is, with mostly wrong info. She'd sure be surprised and pleased to read and earn that salary. And like many others she lives in a very expensive house in a below average neighborhood.

Sis surprised me with a Google picture of my house a couple years ago. Even then it was an old pic. Could tell by the color of the boat cover in the driveway.

I would think that if they have your phone number, they probably already have your email address, without you even having to enter it into their website.

Anyone with access to any of the three major credit rating services can know virtually *everything* about you, your family, in-laws, neighbors, former addresses, what-have-you. Dates of birth, SS numbers, the WORKS.

I'm hoping technology will soon have a way to distinguish me in a way someone can't steal -- maybe an image of my right eye, as fingerprints can be 'lifted'.

Someone sent this to me last month. Altho there were some inaccuracies, they were right about a lot including the date of my house..1840. The scariest part was there was a picture of the house taken from across the street. It wasn't a google earth aerial shot, but like a photo. It's a scary world.

How nice of them to say I am in my early 40's! I live in a below average house and they don't know if I have a pool or not. Oh, there are 3 people living here too. I also do clerical work. As most of you know I have already had my 75th birthday this year, there are just two of us here and my home was built in 1970 and is brick. No clerical work here either. My pool is probably inside :)

Sue

Why do they want your e-mail address to remove information that is available from many other public sources?

No thanks. They can leave me up there. There's nothing on there that isn't public knowledge anyway, and most of the rest of it is made up garbage.

I think the only purpose of this site is to collect your e-mail address. The information they "offer" is meaningless.

Forgot to add: my e-mail addy is the one thing that isn't public and they don't have.

I'm not giving it to them.

My son suggested that I use a throw away email address - a Yahoo or Hotmail and then request to be removed and then just never or check that email address.

I'm not sure I'll even bother. They had my name, street (not house number) Caucasian, home owner, yes to having children - but not my house value or photos or anything else. Curious they did have a hobby - travel! Well I'd like to travel but we don't.

If you are that worried about your email address, you could just create a temporary address on hotmail or elsewhere and close it out after a week.

Seems to me from some of the posts above that they already have info that is not public knowledge. And who knows if they're showing everything that they've gathered. If they were then there would be no need to pay.

Like I said, if it doesn't bother you, then so be it. If it does, then do like mcmann suggested.

As Glenda would say, over and out!

I love the ones that said the houses were worth a million plus
and were in "below average neighborhoods."

Marilyn, that could easily be the case here in So. Calif. :-)

Some of the info on the page is interesting. Who really cares if I have a fireplace or not? It says I don't, but it lies. :-)

Jodi-

The info they are collecting is public knowledge... statellite views of your house, pictures from facebook or other accts. that you may not realize are public (what do you think, they broke into your hosue and took your wedding pics?). Property value info from appraisals, neighborhood info, phone numbers; it's public info. The neighborhood info is not often right because they are over generalizing and probably using national averages; Although I wouldn't doubt they have it set to list numerous people in below average neighborhoods so the people want that wrong info erased so friends won't look them up and learn they are poor. It's a ploy... They don't care if your info is correct; they want your emails.

Emails linked to your personal name are generally not public knowledge though...Yes, your email itself may be out there, but not linked to your name... That's one thing they generally don't have together... Using a throw away email would probably be better than your private one...but, keep in mind, good or bad, that throw away email may one day be linked to your name in searches.

Good grief. Then the creators of that website are not too intelligent. I can think of ten different ways to gather addresses without going through the trouble and expense of maintaining a website. To each his own I guess.
