FYI, I got a look, like I wasn't as quite smart as he first thought, when I mentioned them to my electrician, who buy the way is only about 21-23 yrs old, and he informed me they are PNEUMATIC switches. Clearly, I was misled as to the terminology and got one of those hand hitting head lightbulb moments after he said it, since I was using a PNEUMATIC flooring nailer at the time, not an "air flooring nailer". You might want to use the more professional term when asking about them to plumbers and electricians. :) Sue

Cesar, I have 122 year old ducts in my home (I have seen the original bill of sale for the furnace and know the brick ducts are original--the only thing that has been replaced is the feeder ducts in the basement that were replaced when the original gravity furnace was replaced. I now have a heat pump with A/C (I didn't install it, bought it with it installed). We have one room upstairs that doesn't have a duct, and we put a window unit in there (my bedroom, I like it cold, so it's great). The only problem we have is that there is a 10 degree difference between downstairs and upstairs (I think this has to do more with hot air rising than the PUSH of the system though)...and we have no return from the 2nd floor, just on the landing of the stairs. It can get a little warm in the summer as we try to go light on the A/C for $$ reasons but since we put in the blown-in insulation in the attic, it's been good. We've been here 2.5 years and are comfortable. I'm glad we didn't have to install it. I don't know if just because it works for us it works for everyone... our ducts are large, probably 8-10 inches square, with large louvered grates, and the longest run is probably 40 feet.

i just got my undermount ticor sink shipped to me today. looks like one corner of the lip was banged during shipping, though it doesn't affect the lines of the inside of the sink. not knowing how these are installed, i called galaxy to report the damage. my contractor walked in and saw the lip and thought he could bend it back, with no consequence to the final installed look of the sink. i told galaxy about this and the salesman offered me a discount for my trouble, without my even asking for it. instead i opted for a terrazzo sealer, which they are shipping to me free of charge. why can't everything work like this. damages happen, but there should be a reasonable solution good for both parties. i love galaxy!

I did say it could be due the condenser being increased in size. I don't understand how a loss of freon could cause a condenser to short cycle. Perhaps you misunderstood what the contractor said. But if he made that statement then my confidence in his ability continues to go down. What exactly was replaced? So far I know it was the condenser. I hope he replaced the coil in the attic. Was the furnace also replaced? What about the line set (the copper tubing running from the attic to the condenser outside}? Normally on an attic installation that is not replaced since it is running inside walls. The old line set can be reused but it must be flushed out properly. You can't mix the old and new refrigerants. But, if the condenser was increased in size, the line set may be too small (diameter) to work properly. This is another reason not to be increasing the size of the condenser. Has the contractor returned yet? If there were air flow problems while running the AC, then there will be air flow problems with the furnace. Those have to be fixed. Make sure the air flow works well in the spare bedroom. Just because you rarely use it does not mean it should not heat and cool properly. All bedroom vents should have approximately equal air flow. This should not be too difficult with the furnace installed in the attic.
