Quartzite Recommendation to go with calacatta gold tiles?

Hello everyone:

I know there are several stone experts here on the kitchens thread and I hope you don't mind that I have a stone q for a bathroom. We are planning our bathroom remodel and would like to use calacatta gold tiles on the floor and walls. However, I don't think we are the best candidates for calacatta gold counters on the vanity. I like the idea of going with a quartzite for a modest veining, but it would need to go with the white, gold and gray veining in the calacatta tiles. Does anyone have a recommendation for a quartzite? I love tbe quartzite I am seeing in the threads here but don't know which varieties incorporate warmer tones to go with gold veining in the calacatta. Also, i am not sure where I can get quartzite in Ohio, do I see if I can order and ship it to the local granite fabricators? I certainly appreciate your help and your experienced insights.

Apologize for not knowing how to link - have to call DH to do this for me all the time. But if you look up my post "help before I ruin my almost finished kitchen," I have posted an inspiration pic that is the opposite of what you are saying. The floor is quartzite and the counters and backsplash are calacutta. The floor is actually dark and the cabinets a cream color. Also,I put in a quartzite 5" hex in the golden sand color in my powder room and love it. It seems like it might go with carrara, as there are blues, greys, creams in it. Hope it helps.

hollysprings, I've been thinking about your comment since you posted! It makes me nervous. I don't like things extremely traditional or extremely modern. I guess I would lean more toward traditional but do like some transitional elements. I was thinking that the mitered edge or the edge like Romy's (with the eased edge under the ogee) could work. I have seen traditional kitchens with a mitered edge that look fantastic and transitional kitchens with an ogee stacked on an eased edge that also look good. Thoughts? I couldn't tell which one you were advising me to do or not do.

@Beth H. - thank you for your comments. I don't think we want to have dark counter tops. The kitchen is open to our family room. The minimal wall space in the kitchen will be painted a light blue color, as will the walls in the family room. We were thinking about: a) white cabinets and island b) the Calacatta gold marble 3" x 6" tiles for the back splash c) light(ish) counter tops on the perimeter and island (perhaps with some grey coming through d) medium brown hardwood floors We thought about using walnut for the island surface, but decided against it due to maintenance issues. If we didn't want to have dark counter tops, are there any other options? Thanks!

Calacatta Gold vs Calacatta Oro

Spanish word for Gold is Oro. There are variations in Calacatta Gold depending on where it comes from and when it was fabricated. It is a natural product and not perfectly uniform. I went to many tile shops and all their Calacatta Gold/Oro looked slightly different. You also have to worry about store samples being old and not matching the current batch of stone being mined. Always ask for a sample from the current lots that are available for sale. They might have to order a current sample and you might have to pay for it. Your builder probably picked the tiles based on price and not based on looks or quality. I would never allow a third party to pick my tiles!

Calacatta gold hex tile master bath floor - pictures and advice?

We are updating our master bath now and using Charme Calacatta Gold mosaic tile with an accent band on the shower floor. We chose Tobacco Brown grout to compliment our pine floor. The walls are Aquarella Nanda 3x12 subway tile with bright white grout. I am going for a more neutral look and didn't want it to look too busy. I am adding a pic of the shower in progress and can update when it's completed. As far as trim, we used Benjamin Moore Harwood Putty, which is a nice white that looks great with the tile. The fixtures are Delta Trinsic in Champagne Bronze.
