HGTV dream home anyone?
Comments (28)Peegee, I had the same frustration. All I want is to see the house... I tried a few entry points from the site, and then, forget it. If it's not user-friendly, HGTV may not need my Web clicks for their advertisers. Regarding the lack of green building, my layperson's understanding is that this incentive for new builds ended in 2013. If HGTV planned this house to be showcased after Dec. 31, 2013, then green building wasn't a priority, unfortunately, for the network to highlight with this home. This is my understanding of the tax incentive, and, if true, would explain the lack of focus on "green" for this new build....See MoreHGTV Dreamhouse
Comments (29)Yep, Vern and Gen. To be fair, both of them produced the "best" work on the show imo. To clarify, by best I mean rooms I wouldn't need to immediately redo. I do like a lot of Gen's stuff on her regular HGTV show, so I blame a lot of what was done for TS on time/budget constraints and the show seeking shock-value. What I think would be even more hilarious would be to have Candace on TS. I think she has fabulous taste so I'd love to see what she'd come up with, but my guess is she'd fail miserably just because she tends to go with a much more expensive and involved look aesthetically. First of all, none of these houses are anywhere I would want to live. Exactly. It cracks me up because they are forever repeating the age-old real estate adage of "location, location, location", yet these dream homes seem to be the furthest from that advice. The only exception I can think of is Sonoma, which I wouldn't have minded....See MoreOT: HGTV dream home give away...reaction
Comments (74)Some of you are so mean...she's drunk, dosen't wash her hair, fights with her husband, has stitches, and is ungrateful. Sheesh she was shocked and probably scared with that banshee screaming in her face. And nothing would peeve me off more than a freak screaming at me about how I should feel about my great fortune, like some charity case or something. It's cool to win..but sheesh umm to say it in the worst way possible (what I was thinking while watching STFU woman!) A good hostess would have seen she was overwhelmed; she should have lowered her voice, put her arm around the poor woman and said something about her obviously being in shock instead of continuing to scream in her face. That would have helped the woman calm down and then develop a proper reaction that would make America happy. Normally for programs like this they call the winners and tell them that they're winning a prize in the show so to be prepared, but not that they are winning THE prize. That's how they get the house staged and the correct signatures authorizing the show (ie everyone in the house had to agree it was ok to be on film). The hostess belongs on HGTV. She was unprofessional and obnoxious and very low class, much like the majority of HGTV shows now a days. It was actually hard to watch, painful really. I feel for the poor woman. I'd personally like to help her financially if she needs it but I guarantee, she's getting calls like that every 30 seconds (I banked 4 lottery winners...I know the drill). She's probably now more overwhelmed, and depressed after America's beat the he!! out of her. She deserves a hug and some sound financial counseling, and some time alone (and probably not in the US where we beat people up for not acting like Lauren Lake)....See MoreWho won the HGTV Dream Home?
Comments (7)Fun! I think last time we posted about this we said the cash wouldn't make that big of a dent in the taxes. HGTV says the total value of the prize is $2,000,000. If you subtract 250k cash and 50k for the car, the value of the house and furnishings are around 1.7 million. Sell the house for 1.5 million, pay the realtor 90k, pay 750k taxes and you end up with 660k cash plus a 50k car. I'd be thrilled with 660k and a brand new car but the financial reality of the prize is sobering....See Moresniffdog
