If you've been pleased with your furniture purchases made online, would you please share which company you ordered from?

It's been so many years since I ordered furniture, that I absolutely cannot remember who I dealt with.

Pottery Barn. I bought their large secretary-hutch for our master bedroom. Took a chance here, because it's huge in size and pretty spendy as well. Am very, very pleased, both with the service (the deliverymen were nice guys, attached the hutch to the desk and carefully placed it for me) and the piece itself.

Restoration Hardware. I bought an upholstered camelback armchair to accompany the P.B. desk and love it. Although I've had to tape two edges because of one naughty kitty's tendency to scratch that lovely chenille!

Ballards. Have purchased their London bookcase and also a swivel-top TV cabinet. This is not heirloom furniture but both pieces are attractive and have been doing their jobs for several years now.

I had a great experience w/ Basista (I really like Tim as a salesman.) I ordered Bradington and Young chairs and a Hooker entertainment center. No issues at all and about a 50% savings.

I just ordered my bedroom furniture from MK Designs and I have a good feeling about it. Will post back once I've received it all.

Frankly, for case goods, once you are going high-end you might as well go with a custom wood furniture maker. I've done that several times and obtained gorgeous, well-made (and American-made) pieces styled just as I wanted them and didn't spend as much as I would have had I bought the same kind of pieces from a high-end furniture maker. For example, John Landis Cabinetworks made my dining room table, chairs, and side piece and I was able to slightly shorten the distance between the seat of the chair and the top of table - and double the batting in the seat cushions - in order to address being short-waisted and not wanting to feel like I need to sit on a telephone book when I am at my own dining room table. If you want to see what was made for me go here http://www.johnlandiscabinetworks.com/diningroom.shtml and look under Brigham - the website shuffles through the pictures - when you click on cabinetry, I think mine is the second one - a cherry piece with slightly curved legs and no hutch (these pictures were taken when just built so pieces have darkened) and the table (plus one chair) is the third trestle table that scrolls through when you click on dining tables. This was the first trestle table he made and he used to have it named after me! But no more. Anyway, the furniture is gorgeous, very well-made, unbelievably comfortable (those chairs are what sold me - great, great, great lumbar support - I can never get my guests to leave!) and not as expensive as the "retail" prices on the website suggest.

SAVE YOURSELF TROUBLE - DO NOT ORDER FROM WHOLESALE FURNITURE BROKERS and Be Cautious with ordering any furniture online. I made the mistake of ordering a their complete Sonoma Queen bedroom set online from Wholesale Furniture Brokers and have had the most unpleasant experience. The furniture looks good on the website, but when we received it and tried to assemble, it was a very frustating experience. To start with, the wood is the cheapest and worst quality imaginable for furniture purposes. It is very close to 'matchstick' quality wood and kept breaking during assembly!!! The metal fittings and screws are also poor quality. The bed slats were also of poor quality wood and a few millimeters short in length, such that it did not reach the support bracket at one end. Dissatisfied with what I had opened and assembled, I wanted to return some of the unopened and untouched items for a refund. But their 'Customer Service' refused to accept anything back saying the items were 'custom made to order'. When I pointed out to them that their labels and markings on the package indicated dates that were several months before my order was placed, the lady said she would check and revert back. Needless to say, they did not provide a satisfactory explanation nor accept the unopened boxes or provide a refund. I will never ever buy again from Wholesale Furniture Brokers and would strongly suggest that you do not either. It would be much more safer to buy furniture from a reputed physical shop where you can see and feel the material before buying and check that if for any reason, if you are dissatisfied, they have a reasonable returns policy.

Over the past 15 years, I have bought from Boyles frequently. I have been extremely pleased with the service I've gotten. Only once was there a problem. I purchased a leather chair and ottoman. When the ottoman was delivered, I was out of town and had a neighbor let the movers in. When I got home, I discovered that the ottoman had scratches in the leather. I called Boyles. they asked me to e-mail them pictures. I e-mailed them a couple of pictures of the damage. They promptly sent me a new ottoman! I would call and ask a salesperson how often they run free shipping. Seems I get e-mails from them fairly often promoting "free shipping."

Thanks, I would appreciate that! It looks black in the pictures -- def. don't want black. I'm also wondering about cable routes. One of the desks would be positioned so that the back faced out toward the rest of the house -- I'm wondering if the cable routing (or ports where the cables come out, if it doesn't have routing) is such that the back of the desk could face outward, and not be an eye sore. (Right now DH's desk hides cables from the front, but not from the back, so I've had to fake it with a fabric drape across the back -- works, but not ideal).

Wish I could remember but I had an awesome experience. Ordered from N. Carolina. I sent them numbers and they faxed pics and I ended up getting quite a few Century Furniture pieces at probably 50% less than the department store plus they gave me a great freight price.

I had superb experiences twice with High Point Furniture Sales. Excellent and reputable and great savings. I dealt with Hilda. I did everything by phone, and we verified the style numbers etc by photos to be sure. (last thing you want ti to think you are ordering something and find out it doesnt correspond)
