Hmmm, after posting a response I found similar questions in the bath forum that made me start thinking, just signed up yesterday, 4 posts in two forums that talk about 1 website. My hunch is "SPAM"?

Hm - spam or no, I've actually ordered from this company. How weird. I think they're a small company based in Brooklyn, NY. I ordered a 1" white carrera hex for my upstairs bathroom about a week ago. Set to be installed next weekend. The product is great and the people were very helpful. They sent me tons of samples for just $7. The site could use some improvement, though.

Me thinks SPAM as well (is spam supposed to be all uppercase - is it an acronym or just cause it sounds annoying?) I say we hijack this thread and post links to ALL the glass tile sites we have used. Or, conversely, we could all raise our hands and promise never to use products that spam on this site. That should stop them. I just started posting a week ago or so, and I am annoyed.

Well, I am no spammer, and now I am confused. Why don't we attempt to answer the question at hand? In fact, I would have probably come up with the same question soon. I am really interested to hear from people in working kitchens who have glass tile backsplashes, i.e. how hard or easy it is to keep those tiles clean, and if they would choose differently if they could do it all over again? After all, the product is not cheap.

It depends on the look you want. Glass tiles come in a variety of sizes, colors prices, just like ceramic tile. It would probably be easier to seal the grout of the ceramic tile, as in all probability there would be less of it (the larger the tile, the less grout, correct?) My kitchen is small without much natural light, so I want to encourage as much light as possible, hence glass backsplash. Modern kitchens also look good with glass tile. However, traditional kitchens would look good with either, depending on how they are used.

In terms of installing the tile, I haven't installed the glass tile yet, but have installed the ceramic tile at my back door and on my hearth. I will practice a bit before installing the glass tile - it is, from what I have read, a little tricky.

However, it all comes down to personal preference/aesthetics. I have seen both materials look gorgeous, and both materials not so nice. You need to think of what will go with your other materials, your style, and your budget. I don't think it is any harder to clean glass than ceramic tile - only if the tile chips would it be more difficult. It is probably a pain to reseal so much grout. Anyone have an opinion on that? How often do you need to reseal grout in glass tile?

For my ceramic tile hearth I chose Laticrete SpectraLock grout because it resists stains. I didn't want the ashes from my wood stove leaving marks. So far, so good. It was fairly easy to apply, though I have heard others say that it was difficult. I am not sure what I will be using yet to grout the glass tile, but I would prefer a grout that I do not need to seal.

I have a few glass tiles in my mostly stone backsplash. During the day, they are quite reflective. Some will like that, others not.

I looked at the Northeastern tile site and was unable to print, so I found this site that has a similar (if not bigger) selection of tiles, but allows you to print...and the prices seem a little lower as well.

I'm thinking about the using the Pomegranate Blend behind my cooktop!

Whatever you do, avoid Northeastern Tile or its online incarnation, BuyTile.com. Terrible, terrible service, loads of mistakes,no accountability or communication. Truly the most indifferent, irresponsible company I've dealt with in a long time. Substitute products without informing customer, don't process returns, don't provide information on missing orders...just incredibly bad.
