I absolutely love pinterest! I find the search function is so helpful when I want to look for photos.

I do love Pinterest (and one of these days hope to find the time to make/do all of the ideas I pin). However, most of my kitchen/house ideas are in my Houzz Ideabook. However, I do have several in Pinterest.

I've gotten some ideas from looking at other people's boards but mostly it's been really helpful for me to organize the things I like. For example, as I was going through my remodel, I would bookmark pulls and knobs I liked or tile backsplashes I liked. But if I wanted to see them next to each other I had to open up multiple windows with all my bookmarks.

With Pinterest I can put all my favorites in one location and then look at them together...side by side. So I made a board for light fixtures and paint color and hardware and and fabrics and tile, etc. That's what I have really liked about it.

DD2 introduced me to Pinterest. I don't use it as often as I did in the beginning, but I'm always seeing something new and/or useful when I do have the time to browse.

I did not know you have to have Facebook with pinterest.

I will have to learn more about it. Many friends have
idea boards or pins. I am still thinking about it.

My big fear is privacy. How secure is it?

I am not a fan of being sucked into social media by cute little features. Suddenly a corporation decides to change its privacy policy, or give people access to every other part of your FB or Twitter identity, or whatever else it chooses to do, and then everyone knows your business. Right now employers have gone beyond checking out people on FB--they are now demanding that you open your personal FB account in front of them, so they can peruse and violate your family's private messages for you, for their own sick prurient interest. Maybe your interviewer will tell you she doesn't like white cabinets, and you'll have to agree. Or they'll judge and review your reno plans and decide you spend too much money. No thanks. Pull pictures off the web and save them on your computer.

So don't put personal information online.
Imagine that. A simple answer to all paranoia.

Pinning pictures, even uploading pics can be perfectly safe if you use your noggin. This is not rocket science.

No one even says you have to use your information.
When the store clerks ask you for your phone number, do you automatically give it to them? Well, think again. Make it up.

It's a simple as if you don't like what's on TV, turn the channel.

I browse Pinterest. If I end up joining (I like that comparison idea) I highly doubt I'll join with any of my own information. Never have. Not even here, although I truly have no secrets. That's been perfectly evident!

I also am not comfortable with their privacy policy and prefer to organize things my own way. Yes, I could go to the trouble of getting another Google mail address and setting up a dummy Facecrack page, but I'd just rather not. I don't need another timesuck and I hear warning bells on the horizon about Pinterest's copyright violations.

You don't have to sign up with your Facebook account; I just used my email.

I don't like the viewing interface and would much rather see a slideshow like Picasa rather than having to return each time to the board to view the next picture. Does anyone know of a good iPad app that allows for a slideshow view? I downloaded the free Pinterest one but that isn't very good and doesn't allow for zooming in to a picture.

Great boards everyone....I have pinned more great ideas from all of them!

The linked article had me re-thinking Pinterest. I'm not that comfortable with some of the issues in having boards there anymore. I admit I should have read much more carefully to begin with. Additionally, I wasn't that into it anyway, and just don't need more to keep me on the computer, especially with complications attached. I am just going to keep better track of things I'm interested in saving in my own computer files. Sharing with others was fun, though.

I love pinterest! Highly addicting and tonnes of great stuff. And tonnes of crap too.

For anyone worried about copyright stuff, consider that Google and Yahoo and Facebook and all the big web names sue each other for copyright infringement all the time, mostly it goes nowhere. It is fair to be wary though, and if you're uncomfortable there are always other ways to keep yourself organized.

Just in case anyone is interested in other options, I find evernote and skitch to be useful (and free if you don't need extra space!) for organizing some of my internet browsings.

I fully understand the copyright liability issue and the need to cover themselves for that. There is also the part about their right to sell your photos, which isn't a necessary element, as Evernote proves, it seems. Maybe this forum has that same right to our photos, and those other places you listed, too, Mmhmmgood. I can't remember and should know. All the stupid little fine print I knew would come back to bite us someday.

Marcolo ... Don't give personal information online. LIE about your name, age, date of birth and interests. Half the internet thinks I'm a guy :) the other half thinks I'm fake.

My legal name and real address doesn't appear online, except for my banking sites. Even my purchases are done via a shadow account and PayPal.

I did not realize they could sell your photos....interesting...guess I should go back and take a closer look at the T&C's. Still love it tho.

I find it a good gathering tool for ideas. I have 70 boards so far & I've just started :) It's a good 'holding' place for things I come across that I just don't have time right then to look into.

You'll notice I garnered a lot of ideas from GW in my kitchen & home boards :) I always try to make sure I credit the originator. Thank you all for contributing to my Pinterest!

I began using Pinterest a few months ago. I enjoy pinning recipes and crafts ideas, however, found the pictures so tiny it tends to drive me crazy. what I'm loving more for decorating ideas is Houzz, especially on my iPad.

Lazygardens, you need to read the Pinterest terms and conditions. If you think fake online information can save you from the worst of it, you're wrong. I'm glad you find it so useful you're willing to lose your house over it.
